In reply to: [Velvet Blues Update URLs] Site broken after moving it and replacing linksyesw, it seems to be difficult to get any answers on this forum, expect from some of the developers (I found Tobias B?thge, the developer of TablePress, to be very helpful, as well as the developers of the MH Magazine theme).
In the end I found out myself what the problem was – file indexing for the server was set to a maximum of 2,000 files per directory, so that FileZilla didn’t only just display that amount, but also it didn’t download more than 2,000 files per folder when I downloaded the whole site, which led to a lot of broken links when I re-uplaoded it to a different directory. I solved the problem by using the same directory instead of moving the site, and simply defining that directory as the one for my add-on domain (although I found out that I could have also downloaded the complete site by using the file explorer in cPanel to zip it first). After that, the only other thing I had to do was to change two entries in the .htaccess file to fix ‘Error 500 Internal Server Error’ messages that I was getting, and since then everything has been working fine.
See here for a detailed explanation.

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] Can’t replace URLs in TablePressOK, ignore my question – just used Better Search Replace like the original poster in the link that I posted above, and it worked a treat! ??

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] Can’t replace URLs in TablePressI’ve also tried the following replacements, but to no avail. Each time 0 URLs get replaced, and the tables still show the links pointing towards yeshar.co.uk/kneif instead of kneif.info/ :
http:\/\/www.yeshar.co.uk\/kneif\/
>http:\/\/www.kneif.info\/
http:\/\/yeshar.co.uk\/kneif\/
>http:\/\/kneif.info\/
http:\/\/www.yeshar.co.uk\/kneif
>http:\/\/www.kneif.info
http:\/\/yeshar.co.uk\/kneif
>http:\/\/kneif.info
www.yeshar.co.uk\/kneif
As I’ve got 100s of links embedded in TablePress tables, I’m really hoping to find a solution, so I won’t have to edit them all by hand. Thanks for any help!
I finally figured out what the problem was – file indexing for the server was set to 2,000 files, which is why FileZilla only showed me a maximum of 1,998 files per folder. But not only that – If I downloaded the complete WordPress folder to my PC, it still only downloaded the 1.998 files from both wp-content/uploads/2016/09 and wp-content/uploads/2016/10 that were visible in the FTP client (and in the cPanel File Manager)!
I solved the problem by not downloading and re-uploading the files to a new folder at all, but by simply defining the folder for my add-on domain as the one that already had the working WordPress site in it. I also found out that it is possible to zip a folder in cPanel, so I zipped the complete WordPress folder, and I am currently downloading an 8GB zip file so that I’ve got a local backup before I use Velvet Blues to replace all my URLs. The files that I had previously downloaded with FileZilla had only totalled about 600MB, so just a fraction of the actual site … no wonder nothing was working! A lot of the photos were duplicates in smaller sizes, so in fact there were only about 400 unique photos in each folder – 800 in total, rather than the 13,500 that I had uploaded to FooGallery albums!
I really like the plugin by the way, so thanks for that. I tried NextGen before that, but found it very counter-intuitive, and it was completely butchering TablePress tables and making them unworkable! FooGallery was far more suitable for my purposes and is a treat to use – except that I had to add 100s of links and other HTML tags in the image descriptions by hand, but I guess you can’t have everything … it is still good enough for me to have just given it a positive review and a 5-star rating! ??

In reply to: [Velvet Blues Update URLs] Site broken after moving it and replacing linksI just replaced all instances of https://kneif.info with https://www.kneif.info, and at first it seemed to work. If I selected a members name from the main menu, it would take me to the correct page, and the albums for that member were displayed correctly. But if I visited the ‘members’ page, the links on there were pointing towards the old site, https://yeshar.co.uk/kneif. I ran another search & replace, to replace all instances of yeshar.co.uk/kneif with kneif.info, and suddenly all the images have disappeared again!
What on earth is going on here??? ??

In reply to: [Velvet Blues] Site broken after moving it and replacing linksI just did that, thanks – not holding my breath though, as the response rate on this forum sadly seems to be pretty poor.
I guess I’ll delete the site again and re-upload it. Maybe it would be more helpful to try and get into the dashboard from where I’d be able to use the Velvet Blues plug-in, rather than executing a script on the database from outside the WordPress environment.

In reply to: Moving WordPress installation to directory used for add-on domainUpdate:
I successfully copied the site to the new directory, and it can now be accessed via myparentssite.com. But obviously I am directed to a subpage of myownsite.com/myparentssite as soon as I click on a link. So I thought it would be a good idea to run Velvet Blues to update the URLs – but unfortunately even entering myparentssite.com/wp-admin in the address bar will redirect me to myownsite.com/myparentssite/wp-login.php (or to be precise, myownsite.com/myparentssite/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myparentssite.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1) where I have to log in again before being directed to the dashboard for the old site located in myownsite.com/myparentssite rather than the one in myownsite.com/myparentssite.com/, so if I was to run Velvet Blues from there, I would be updating the wrong installation.
What do I need to do to solve this problem?

In reply to: [TablePress] [NextGen] Weird table behaviourThat is really annoying – I wish I had saved the page last night when it was working after I had added the extra column, instead of overwriting it – unfortunately, I am not able to replicate that particular case anymore. The only difference that I can think of is that I had added the galleries after the table, in addition to the ones inside the table. If that worked, I might be able to find a way to hide the extraneous galleries.
I’ll be playing around a bit with the page, to see if I can find a workaround – if not, I’ll probably have to get in touch with their support team, as you suggested. Although I haven’t exactly got a lot of hope that their support is going to be anywhere near as good as yours … so maybe a different gallery plugin would be in order, at least for the two pages that I am setting up in that format. All others will have standard thumbnail galleries with the layout determined by NextGen, so that shouldn’t cause any problems.
Thanks for your time & all the best,
Jennifer

In reply to: [TablePress] [NextGen] Weird table behaviourOk, I hope this is right ??

In reply to: [TablePress] [NextGen] Weird table behaviourI realised that I made a mistake by using an id selector for an element that appears several times on the same page, instead of a class (it is over 10 years ago that I last set up a web page and used CSS!), so I wondered whether that could be causing confusion, and I added a new table (42). But the problem persists. Strangely enough, there seems to be a caching problem again, and although the CSS for the new class that I created (.smallrText) is recognised, the CSS for the first table column, which sets its width to 0, isn’t – despite both being defined in the same stylesheet.

In reply to: [TablePress] [NextGen] Weird table behaviourHere’s the CSS for both tables:
.tablepress thead th, .tablepress tbody td { text-align: center; vertical-align: middle; } .tablepress img { margin: 0 auto !important; } .tablepress a img { margin: 0 auto !important!; } .tablepress-id-40 .column-1, .tablepress-id-41 .column-1 { width: 0; } .tablepress-id-40 .ngg-galleryoverview, .tablepress-id-41 .ngg-galleryoverview { text-align: center; } .tablepress-id-40 .ngg-gallery-thumbnail-box, .tablepress-id-41 .ngg-gallery-thumbnail-box { float: none !important; display: inline-block; }
Hope that helps!

In reply to: [TablePress] [NextGen] Weird table behaviourSure, anything that helps with finding a solution. I’m not sure whether the image is too large for this forum, so here’s the link: https://yeshar.co.uk/kneif/images/screenshot.jpg
I’ve also created a new page by duplicating the old one, and I also copied the table which I added – so that the new page https://yeshar.co.uk/kneif/members/george-kneif/album/past-times/maternal-grandparents-1-2/ now contains both the tables with ID 40 and ID 41. But the new table still shows the same behaviour, even though it worked last night after I had added the extra column.
Once again, thanks for your help!

In reply to: [TablePress] [NextGen] Weird table behaviourThis is getting weirder and weirder.
I’ve described my new problem here and attributed it to a problem with the cache – but what I actually did was to delete the old table (table 39), and replace it with table 40 (with the extra column, which had previously been working). Before, I had only inserted table 40 at the bottom of the page, to test it, and I had merely moved its place on the page, but I never actually made any changes to that table (except straight after copying it from table 39 last night, when I added the extra column) – but it is showing exactly the same behaviour that the old table (without the extra column) had, in both Firefox and Chrome!
I really can’t explain this, and the best thing I can do at this point is to hope that somehow a cached version of the table is displayed (which only existed for a few second until I added an extra column), and that it will be displayed correctly at some point. But even if the problem solves itself after a certain amount of hours, it will still be really annoying if I have to wait for ages each time I make changes to a table, to make sure that it looks the way I intend it to.

In reply to: [TablePress] [NextGen] Weird table behaviourIt appears that my issue with Chrome not displaying the page properly is due to a cache problem. Even after reloading the page several times yesterday, it still showed the old version – but this morning, it suddenly worked. The same thing happened with other issues that I reviously posted about, when everything worked fine in Firefox, but not in Chrome.
It seems that I’m not the only person with this problem: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6576468/chrome-caching-like-a-mad-browser
