Thanks so much for all of your help. I have a little bit more information about the site im trying to change..

it is being hosted through godaddy.com and i can see all of the FTP Files on the godaddy.com site. However, the person who was previously working with it was doing it through Microsoft FrontPage. I also notice on the side panel of the godaddy site it says i can install wordpress as an “app” i do not want to crash the site..would this make sense to do?

thanks for the help! i have read up on the wordpress forums using MAMP and have gotten to the very end…and get slightly confused https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress_Locally_on_Your_Mac_With_MAMP at the very end…..do i put in exactly as they describe…? and then what after that?? THANKS!!

no, i want to host https://www.woodquarters.com … it is hosted through godaddy.com / dreamweaver. can i not develop a site and then transfer it over once finished?? or do i need to buy a domain name to develop and then transfer?
