I did not activate the email subscribe portion of jetpack. Still no success.
I deactivated the plugin jetpack.

I had read the documentation referred to in your reply.
My installation of Email Subscribers does not have the templates shown in the documentation:

Method 1 : Editing the Default Post Notification Emails

Step 1 : Go to your WordPress Dashboard -> Email Subscribers -> Templates

Step 2 : Click to edit the default Post Notification Template

The plug in worked perfectly for a while, then stopped.

I really do like it and would appreciate any suggestions you might have.
I deleted the plug in and re-installed it, but no luck.
