Only adverse effect would be when you upgrade wordpress — this file may be overwritten. Make sure to save a copy of your changes so you can update the new locale.php if there ever is one.

Unfortunately my damn host is having some dns issue so my domain is pointing to an old out of date server I was on with them..

Same exact problem here ian — (this was with 1.5.1.3 tho, haven’t tried with 1.5.2)

I changed the permissions and I just update it manually. It’s very rare that it requires updates.

and to podz, my .htaccess does contain some hotlink protection stuff at the bottom — so maybe that has somethin to do with it.
