In reply to: How can I disable the link to a parent menu item?respectfully, I find it not at all simple and would appreciate a clarification of the sentence:
“you can add external or static URL form menu just add “#” in Url and add it in menu. “
That sentence is missing words or punctuation (maybe both) that I am unable to deduce.
On the left side of the Menus page, I see a box containing a list of certain pages. To see all the existing pages, I chose “View All.” (not mentioned in the instructions).
The list, with a checkbox allows me to select certain parent pages. OK so far.
But according to the instructions, I now can ” . . . add external or static URL form menu just add “#” in Url and add it in menu.”
But that is not so. It makes no sense to me. Just add what??? And add it exactly where?
There is no option to add anything here. What form are you speaking of? I see no form. I see no URL to which I can add anything.
Please clarify?
Is this just my usual stupidity or do the instructions make assumptions beyond my limited imagination?

In reply to: [EWWW Image Optimizer] waioting for API licenseooops – false complaint. The API was promptly received but I overlooked it. I’d use my wife’s PayPal address (yes, with her permission) to order so the key went there.
Thanks

In reply to: how to copy a theme from another site?I should have been more clear.
I already have twentyeleven installed. I have seen a site with customization that is very similar to what I want it to look like. I want to download that version of the theme from that site and from there make \my own changes.
Is there some way to download that version of the theme from that other site?

In reply to: Weird Installation issuesThanks for stepping up. I just checked. Both FTP clients are (and were all along) set to automatic.
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Weird Installation issuesThe problem is wieder. But maybe someone here can figure it out.
The above suggestions did not yield anything that fixed the situation. so I went to my server’s tech support. They reported that they were able to use the config file i’d created to install a fresh copy of WordPress that went through the install and opened up without any problems.
The web site works fine.
A few hours ago I tried to create a new WP installation on another domain name on the same server.
I started with a fresh download of WP. I encountered the same problems. I also used a totally different FTP client (Core FTP).
Suspicion fell on my FTP client (Filezilla). It seemed to be a likely culprit because the error messages reported incomplete file uploads.
For example, it reported that the /wp-includes/nav-menu.php was incomplete. (which is the exact same error for the previous installation failure.)
When I investigated, I discovered that the file on the server was significantly smaller than the one on my HD. But I was able to do an individual file transfer with the result that the error regarding that file disappeared but was replaced by another similar error message of missing content from yet another file.
/wp-admin/includes/template.php
I updated that and was finally allowed to complete the installation.
So now we know, the FTP client(s) is (are) not the problem.
something is messing with the upload of those files. Is there a possible alien – a virus of some kind – that screws with FTP transfers?

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] editing table widthMystery solved.
In the course of rebuilding the recalcitrant pages I stumbled across the source of the annoying question of why some pages were displaying wider than others.
The “Suffusion” WordPress theme offers page layout options for sidebar placement that can be selected at the time the page is published or edited. In addition to variations (1 left, 1 right / two left / two right, etc) there is a page layout option on the list labeled “default.”
That default layout of sidebars also is 1 left, 1 right.
The site was initially built using default. But those problematic pages were built using the 1 left, 1 right option.
One might think they are the same code, but apparently they are not. The resulting displays were not the same.
As soon as I changed the page layouts of those two pages to “default” the problem went away.
Thanks for your patience and help.

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] editing table widthclever question. Removing the shortcode does not change the center column width.
That makes me even more interested in rebuilding the page, without the code, confirming that it is behaving like all other pages, then adding the shortcode.
Should be informative.
I’ll get back to it early this afternoon. (it’s 9:45am here in New York).

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] editing table widthI agree with the logic of the question – but the fact remains that the behavior is only seen on those two pages.
i am going to take a break now – and go do something less frustrating for while – and then will try some ideas – such as rebuilding the page from scratch.
Thanks for the help. This is a really excellent plugin. I would be interested in being notified whenever you create any others.

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] editing table widthYes, that works! Thank you.
Now I must figure out why the center column itself, no longer pushed wide by the table, is still wider on those two pages.

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] editing table widthhm,mmm- wait. I logged out of ALL the browsers, *refreshed* and it is gone in IE, gone in GC but still not behaving in FF and Opera.
Is there code somewhere than can configure the overall width of a table? I’d like to see what effect that might have.

In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] editing table widthYes, the issue appears logged to the WP dashboard or not.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [TablePress - Tables in WordPress made easy] editing table widthThe issue is there but manifests itself differently in each of the major browsers. The only two pages affected are those with the table (Self-Managed or Fully Managed.)
So start out with any page other than those two (www.buildinghosting.com) note the relative positions and widths of the starting page, then select one of them from the navigation.
In GC, the side sidebar is moved to the right and to see the right edge requires a small horizontal scrolling.
In IE. everything is moved to the left.
In FF the sidebars behave but the center column is wider than the center column on all other pages.
In Opera, the sides remain good, if you start out on any of the “non-table pages. But then select one of the table pages and the entire size of the site shrinks (!!).
