I think that you should change the 404 error page feature ( The WordPress default URLs (like https://www.example.com/author/admin) will cause a 404 (not found) error.) or do you mean that the url you created with your plugin https://www.example.com/author/e9e716def73f76ac does NOT create a 404 error ?
Because auhor url are crawled and indexed by google all the time and basically by default. So if there is a 404 for all author pages that is too negative.
Now the random keys display name is smart but only where there is a site with lots of authors (special case kind of). So the authors are not necessarily bothering security then in this case your plugin is good.
I tried to answer you with some input based on my experience.

There was just this default feature when post/page not translated by WMPL so hoping some clues for you there.

Truth is this I found out Autoamttic using the @username in its p2 theme internally as a production platform does not care to display usernames. Well mayby there are 30 with each core developer his own double verification key from the tablet to login so they actually do not care. But when using p2 or hashtagger with 100’s of facebook type users then it becomes important.
So up to you but I believe it is necessary when using wordpress like a forum or social platform like buddypress.

I so sorry I am no coder at all.
The only idea I had yesterday was about wpml which has the settings to fallback single posts to default when not translated – as I reckon as I used it a lot. I was about to try it again last night but did not. Maybe there in the code is some clues.

Hey. I am jumping in for a similar purpose as Ihor Vorotnov but without changing his request and precising mine which is of the same kind.
I really appreciate Polylang a lot – marvelous piece of work.
Now I want to use the way it goes but want the content of the posts not to be translated yet the post to be displayed in the language chosen by the reader. The reason is similar than for Ihor Vorotnov. My site is like a news site (worse it is a sharing site where users just post like in facebook or twitter) where the content is not translated but all the site around is. So the french reader want the post template in french but the content is fine the way it it.
Polylang is amazing for many reasons and enabling this would be awsome feature if doable easily. Thanks a lot for the plugin.

I decided upon this unhappy answer where automatic is willing to let its landmark theme reveal usernames upon typing “@” in the frontend window that I drop this software. Until a time when you take your own security into your responsible hands I might then come back to it.
