Yep, that worked.
I suppose I don’t really need the inbuilt /portfolio page to display as home. I’ve more control using a self-made portfolio page anyway.

I don’t think I have actually. The homepage displays my self-created ‘Portfolio All’ Page.

But I suppose that’s OK. If it used the standard Portfolio as the homepage, thetre’d be dozens of images to load. Probably not a good idea.

I’m not sure. I don’t think so. Its a standard one that becomes available when you let Jet Pack enable the ‘Portfolio Page Template’, and you use ‘Featured Images’ within pages, or posts.

I didn’t install it from any 3rd party developer.

There isn’t even a single interface for selecting your images, style of slider, functionality etc.

OK, I think I get it now.

You only apply the Portolio Page Template to the ‘Page’ you elect to serve as the homepage.

I wish it was clearer in the documentation. I’d applied it to every ‘Page’ that displayed thumnbails — with the portfolio shortcode.

I think this is why my homepage was displaying the extra thumbnails (I’d confounded the system?).

And you can only have the featured images slider on the 1 Page that has the Portfolio Template applied to it.

I haven’t figured out how to determine the order of images in the slider yet. I tried page order, with no success. Maybe it’s to do with the time and date stamp of each one. I posted a question about this in the general forum.

Hi again Kathryn and Richard.

After problems with GK Portfolio, and seeing that its Forum is very inactive with people getting little response to their queries, I’ve come back to Sketch.

This extra thumbnails issue on my homepage is a weird one.

I CAN get rid of them if the chosen ‘static page’ does NOT use the Portfolio Page Template — but rather the ‘Default Template’ (with this brief shortcode in it [portfolio columns=3])

So that’s good. But I’m puzzled by the fact that I have, and can edit this page — for my static homepage — titled Portfolio All with this permalink:

Perhaps I made the mistake of naming it that at some point a few days ago, not realising that that page is supposed to be automatically generated — and is uneditable.

Sorry, correction:

‘Project Tags‘ and ‘Project Types‘ are not listed in my Projects (posts).

(I’d formerly said ‘tags’ and ‘categories’)

On an ordinary post there are ‘Tags’ and ‘Categories’ displayed in the post.

So: is GK Portfolio able to display ‘Project Tags‘ and ‘Project Types‘ in the project posts?

Hi I’d like to know about this too.

I can’t get tags or categories listed in a project post. Shouldn’t they just display as standard?

I tried some of the above—very nervously—without any luck.

Ah, OK Kathryn. They’re gone now.

I’ve actually used a plug-in today called ‘Child Theme Configurator’ whcih does all the complex stuff for me. So all good.

Working with any of these porfolio themes is extremely problematic and time-consuming. They all seem to have bugs, or quirks that are extremely difficult to track down and fix.

The GK Portfolio theme which I love isn’t showing tags or categories within project posts (essential for me) and suddenly the thumbnail images are blank on the ‘portfolio’ page. No idea why. Anyway, it’s outside the remit of this forum and I’m trying to get solutions on the GK forum.
