There was an update a month ago. I have WP 4.9.14.

Thanks, but I’m using the customizer. Unfortunately, when I try to use this on the page above, it gets stripped when published:

is stripped to
<span class="myemail"></span>

leaving only the “@”.

WordPress strips it each time I save the page. I’m an author; do I need special permission? The code is

Not necessary. I found the admins field in the wp_sitemeta table.

I’ll soon be locked out for 24 hours, unless I change the settings to something weaker.

I don’t have the drop-down for the user roles. See the screen shot. Instead, there’s a checkbox for admin privileges. The user has no assigned role right now.
