The registry part of our website is quite small – we’ve avoided the shipping issue before by providing a coupon code to registry owners to share with their guests that provides free shipping. If you can come up with something better that would be great!
Regarding hiding the button, I expect we’ll be buying the pro version once we’ve had a live run with a real customer!

The value 12 was entered as the required amount when setting up the gift registry. At the time, there was sufficient stock of that item.
When I tried editing the registry, stock had already been bought by another customer, reducing the amount of available stock to 9 – that’s where the 9 comes from. Presumably the max field takes the lesser value of either the registry required amount or the available stock.
So, to replicate, set the inventory amount of an item to 12 or more. Add it to a gift registry as a required item. Then reduce the inventory amount of the product to 9, then attempt to edit the gift registry and click ‘Update’.
This presents another issue – in most cases, if the inventory amount of an item is low, we will in most cases get more stock in, so we wouldn’t want required amounts in the gift registry to have to change. I suppose a workaround would be to uncheck ‘Manage stock’ in the product itself.
A further development. It seems the issue occurs when an item in a gift registry has insufficient stock for the required amount (this was checked by clicking the edit button on all product lines in the registry to expose the hidden fields). It would be a good idea to display an warning message and automatically open the edit fields in affected lines when it cannot update a registry due to this rather than fail silently/without feedback.

Ok, a workaround is to click Save Changes on settings page. Neither button in the banner works.

Paypal test works fine, as does a test on https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/. Would be good to get clarification from the plugin author that the howsmyssl.com test should be ignored.
