Thanks so much! When I went to the screen options menu, the comment box was not checked, even though comment box appeared anyway. I turned off comments in settings and still they appeared. But when I unchecked the comment box under QuickEdit they went away.

And thanks for pointing out WordPress themes I knew nothing about.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I should register the domain elsewhere (with, say, bluehost) and then set up WordPress from there. I don’t need to register with WordPress, but I want to use WordPress for my CMS.
