  • What everyone else has already said is correct, but here is a link to a tutorial with pictures. It covers both how to install a wordpress theme dirrectly using your site and uploading to your site after you’ve downloaded it from somewhere else. Hope it helps.

Not a bad idea, but if someone else built this site for you then it’s possible that there could be important features of your site being used by plugins that you aren’t aware of.

If you are afraid you are going to make things worse then it would probably be best to contact whoever built the site for you if you didn’t build it yourself.

I edited my last post to correct the names of the plugins. Its very important that you don’t have any spaces between site and origins. Or tiny and mce. if you have a space like when I posted the first time it won’t come up in the plugin search. I tested my new edits by copy and pasting so they are verified as working.

Then I would suggest the “black studio tinymce widget” which allows you to set your homepage as full width, and have widgets added, such as recent posts.

My website doc2mp3.com uses this plugin in conjunction with the “siteorigins widget bundle” plugin. I’ve simply added a plugin for recent posts even though I removed the default sidbar have it set to full width.

Here is a asic tutorial on the black studio widget. https://siteorigin.com/page-builder/documentation/

I hope this helps. I use this widget on all my sites because of how handy it is.

Go to https://www.yoursitename.com/wp-admin and login. Once you’re there look on the left bar for “plugins” and click it. Then to “installed plugins” below it. Check the list for anything that looks like what your describing and click “deactivate”.

I’m guessing it’s caused by a plugin that you installed right? Simplest way would be to deactivate that plugin.

Uninstalling wouldn’t be needed to remove the plugins features if you plan on using it again later.

You should be able to go to you homepage in the pages section of your dashboard, and on the right in the “page attributes” section there is an option under “templates” to change just that page to full width rather than as default for all pages.

This option can be different depending on the theme, but I think its a pretty common setting.

When your in the “edit page” section for your home page, do you have it set to “full width”? Its an option on the right side under “template”.

It’s possible but not probably its not supported by your theme.

It may just be a bug. I doesn’t look like this theme has been updated since may and as it only has one review, the author may have abandoned it.

Otherwise. If 2.8 is in the log but not released on the main sites then its possible it hasn’t been approved for release yet, and could be buggy also.

Does your dashboard offer to update for you? If not I’d say stick with what’s working.

I’ve had a similar issue. If you type the incorrect login info it says its wrong right? But when you type the correct it just doesn’t do anything?

My solution when this happens(because it hardly ever does I havn’t taken the time to try and fix it) is simply to delete all the garble in the url except for https://www.sitename.com/wp-admin after you know you entered the right login info and it hasn’t produced an error.

After that it always takes me to the dashboard. I hope this helps.

P.S. I’ve only had this issue with my self hosted wordpress. Never when I use a hosting service.

So I guess if bluehost doesn’t allow installing directly from the “add new” page, then when you click download you should get a .zip file right? Then you just follow my instructions on installing the theme from a zip.

Here is a link with the same instructions and pictures. Don’t forget to activate the theme after you upload it.

Once your in the dashboard. Go to appearance->themes and you’ll see “add new” at the top. You have a couple options from there. if your install is operating correctly you should see “featured, popular, and latest” themes. Or you can download one (they come as .zip files) and upload it by clicking “upload theme” in the same spot, “install theme” was in.

Heres a good sight that has a bunch of free themes in a list. I’ve used a few myself. The download method depends on the theme provider, but you always upload the .zip file directly.

I’m being a little presumptuous on what the problem is, but if you are installing wordpress for the first time, I would suggested using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer (https://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx).

Here is a tutorial that will guide you through the steps of installing wordpress. (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_on_Microsoft_IIS)

Once you are able to visit the site through the local host address (127.0.0.1) then that means you are successfully hosting the server.

I personally have used the WPI installer on Windows Server 2012 r2, and it was very easy. There are some more steps to getting it working from outside the internet, but I will wait for a response before going any further.

If this does not help in your situation at all, please understand that importance of posting the details of your situation. I’m happy to help, I just need to know whats going on.

What operating system have you installed this on? And what steps have you taken so far. Have you ensure that IIS is running? ports are forwarded? Are you hosting the site yourself or through another company?
