Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Post Permalink problem: odd characters: ?The problem, related to PHP issue (BOM related issue), has been addressed by the following actions:
The original post has been deleted along with attached media (uploaded images). The ‘naughty’ (bits) characters were also embedded into the post’s markup text before each link to the uploaded images.
A new post (same tile) was created from scratch. New images were uploaded. The new content, with the same title, was then posted. All seems fine with this new post.
Also, before posting the content, the JetPack plugin was deactivated. This was the only plugin that had been updated between the problem post and the previous good post. This was done just in case the error was plugin related.
It’s possible that the image uploading problems may have created a hiccup in the WordPress database (not enough connections). Note: No older post permalinks were affected by this problem.
Lastly, I wanted to give a shout-out to tech support at Bluehost webhosting for helping me through this. – Jay
Site stats for 1.2.1 still not working. Using diffrent themes (Standard Theme) and (EVolve Theme) on two different self-hosting accounts at Bluehost. When 1.2 came out and did not work I rolled back to 1.1.3 without any problems. Dissapointing to say the least. Even with 1.2.1 the stats page shows but the bar chart does not appear. Only the revolving ‘W’ shows.
Rolling back to 1.1.3 works fine.
Hi. Roll back to the old version of the plugin. On the Jetpack plugin page you have listed above look for “FYI” on the right (in the blue boxes). Under that you see the link for ‘Other Versions’ where you download the previous version. Going back to 1.1.3 has worked fine for me.

Yes, installed 1.2 and it site stats would not load, and also had problem connecting WordPress.com – I reset the password and was able to log in to WordPress.com and autorize it, but it did show fatal areas and reported: “Module could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error. Perhaps there is a conflict with another plugin you have installed?”
Ended up deactivating and deleting the plugin – and then reinstalled version 1.1.3. No problems reinstalling and site stats now works fine.
Great! Thanks as always for your support and super plugin.
@daniel Just some follow-up for you. I updated to v.2.0.2 today and ran it. It works ok on my end, – except that it still jumps to the ‘Working’ page and hangs there, instead of going to the ‘Log’ page as it did before.
Thanks for the quick turn around – and agian thanks to you all for your suppot here. ??
@daveshine Ok, set job for DB+WPXML+Optimize+Check as you suggested. The resulting backup file is 395.23KB (tar.gz) … major difference from 739.79MB !
One note: After running the backup from the Job menu, I got kicked to the Working menu, which just hung there saying ‘nothing’. After a bit I switch over the Logs menu to confirm if anything had happened. Thought this might be useful to anyone reading this!
Again, many thanks! – Jay
@daveshine Thanks will try. Just talked to Bluehost support that also confrmed the 64MB default. They suggested updating the php.ini file to 128MB. Also mentioned not to go above 256MB cause any value higher than that will result in the default (64M) being used. Will try following up on you advice first and let you know, Dave. Thanks. All the best, – Jay
Am ruuning my sites on Bluehost webhosting.
Well, I guess I spoke to soon. The settings worked fine on my smaller site. However, on the larger site, the new Job Settings also got me past the “step aborted has too many tries” error I had been getting. But now, I had a problem with creating the zip file due to the size:
2011-07-07 04:40.49: 1. Try for make a list of files to Backup ….
2011-07-07 04:40.50: Files to Backup: 5477

2011-07-07 04:40.50: 1. Try to create backup zip (PclZip) file…

2011-07-07 04:43.25: Job done in 156 sec.I guess I have to get with Bluehost on this, unless there is anotehr suggestion…
Just wanted to say thanks. Your advice above about Job Settings (3,5,30,300) worked for me. All the best!
