But that’s only if you don’t want to use the default meta description. I don’t see any description at all when I paste my URLs to Facebook.
I’ll probably just look for a plugin that works with OG and has documentation.
Yeh, I understand what it does – just not how to get it working.
I tick the box, but like I say, it doesn’t appear to have an effect. There’s no explanation of what the other buttons on the page are for, either.

In reply to: How can we control cookies with new EU legislation? Here in the UK there’s been a lot of discussion about the law, but not much movement on solutions – presumably because it’s up there with asking car manufacturers to start making cars with only square wheels.
There appears to be quite a bit of misunderstanding and legalese in this thread, which demonstrates just how awful this bureaucratic EU Directive is.
We’re still no closer to something that will work out for all users of cookies.
I’m looking for a plugin that will allow me to block users based on whether or not they accept cookies for my site, as detailed here: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/36665/how-can-users-who-do-not-opt-to-have-cookies-set-be-blocked-from-using-a-site
It might appear to be a bit extreme, but what are the alternatives? I don’t have the technical resources or knowledge to implement a sophisticated solution, which puts me in the same category as 95% of all other businesses and website owners (whether they’re businesses, charities or individuals). It’s no great loss to me if I block traffic that would otherwise have opted not to set cookies.
Hi hiulit,
It’s been a while now, so I can’t quite remember! Judging by my last reply, I think I was using placeholders in Posts > Categories, which mustn’t have been valid.
Fixed it myself.
After some time spent experimenting and fiddling with reverting to Headspace2, it finally occurred that placeholders don’t work in the meta title and description of categories and posts.

In reply to: Noob Permalink Multisite QuestionThanks, Ipstenu ??
I’ll give it a shot next time I’m playing with Multisite!

In reply to: Noob Permalink Multisite QuestionThanks, Ipstenu.
I’m running my own VPS, so I’m the one that has to take care of Apache! I’ve not mastered it yet, unfortunately.
Presumably I should be looking in my httpd.conf file. I’ve just had a look and the line
LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
isn’t commented out.I searched for ‘override’ and found this line, though:
# # AllowOverride controls what directives may be placed in .htaccess files. # It can be "All", "None", or any combination of the keywords: # Options FileInfo AuthConfig Limit # AllowOverride None
Should this be set to ‘All’?

In reply to: Noob Permalink Multisite QuestionWell, if anybody does have the right ‘directive’, I’d very much appreciate it ??
Any ideas why my .htaccess isn’t being read, though?

In reply to: Noob Permalink Multisite QuestionI’m also having this problem.
Readable permalinks don’t work for me with Multisite, but the default ones (?p=123 etc) do.
I’ve checked my .htaccess file and this is how it looks:
RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] # uploaded files RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L] # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^ - [L] RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $1 [L] RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(.*\.php)$ $1 [L] RewriteRule . index.php [L]
Any ideas?
I should also add that I’m using domain mapping for subdirectory installations, if that makes a difference.
Would also love to see Multisite support in a future release ??
Anyone? Could really do with a point in the right direction, if anybody has any ideas! This one’s really baffling me.
I tried this in IE last night and it also has the same issue.
Just to add… I have the same issue, too.
Ah, right. That’s put my mind at ease, at least!
I think I have a similar problem.
I’m finding that ‘SEO Title’ for my categories are being overridden by the ‘global setting’ for categories, which I don’t want.
I’m running v0.1.8.
Is it something I’m doing wrong, or is there something WP SEO isn’t doing?
