Yup… Deactivated all plugins and reverted to the default theme – it’s still doing it.

I even tried &orderby=date&order=ASC with query_posts, as had been suggested in other places, but having it as ascending or descending didn’t have an effect.

Thanks. I’m familiar with custom fields and how to start using them, like I mentioned, but reading that guide hasn’t made it any clearer as to how I can start using key values in the post content itself. As mentioned previously, I can only see that one line echoing ‘the_content’ – everything else in singlepost.php points to areas above or below ‘the_content’, which is why I’m struggling to find a way of manipulating what goes in the post content itself.

I haven’t tried deactivating all the plugins and reverting to the original theme, but given that it involves a bit of messing around, I think I’ll just stick to using WP in IE8.

Ahh, sorry – I’ve just re-read my post and I should have been clearer.

I only want to do this for posts that I’ve made sticky (using the sticky plugin) – the first posts to show on a category.

I’ve been having the same issue with a new install (2.9). I haven’t had this problem with one of my older installs (2.6), as I understand that the issue was introduced in 2.7.

Surely there should be a proper fix for this problem by now?!

I think what I was doing was only replacing ‘content’ for ‘excerpt’, rather than replacing the whole statement.

I forgot to add… the problem appears to be regardless of which theme I try, so ignore the ‘options’ part of the path example given above.
