It’s OK. I decided to use another plugin.

I also redid the Profile form, which got me the three icons on the menu:

However, I still cannot display the icons or upload an image file.

Done. No change. I deactivated every plugin but UM.

My bad. It was Shortcodes Ultimate, not Jetpack.

I could not ftp to wordpress.com. That’s what went wrong.

It was a fully working site, but try as I might (and I tried for two days) I cannot reconstruct the functionality or themes he used. So copying the whole site over was the best solution. As it happens, we are going to use that install commercially to do the job but in future I would like to know how to do this without resorting to command lines.

I now realise this. Sorry. We decided to make it a self-hosted solution as WordPress.com doesn’t give access to the files.

But it is obvious that the process of moving an entire site could be made a lot easier.

Found it, but made no difference. Also restored from a week old backup with no luck.

Nada. I don’t have that database listed.

Aaannnd I can’t reinstall WordPress either. I don’t want to uninstall it and find I have lost everything.

I have done a complete reinstall from the last daily backup (it was working until shortly before I posted here, so it should work).

The site appears, but Dashboard doesn’t.

Please tell me I din’t have to do a clean reinstall of WP. There is a slew of plugins and configs there.
