• I’ve done many, many, tests by creating a staging environment, testing every single setting, …. deleting all content and all plugins –> no result
• Finally came to a scenario where I got something working
  • Created again a staging place (staging.syvilledesigns.com)
    • With “Checkout Field Editor for WooCommerce” –> make sure the shipping_company & billing_company fields are not set to be mandatory.
    • Pick a product>put in basked>go to checkout > place order > fill in all the fields except company field (whichi marked optional >> ERROR “There was a problem with the provided shipping address: is required”
  • Eliminate that this is related to the user account creationg
    • Checked: Enable guest checkout (recommended)
    • Not Checked: Login Enable log-in during checkout
    • Not Checked: Account creation Allow customers to create an account: During checkout
    • Not Checked: Customers can create an account before placing their order. Account creation On “My account” page
    • Save Changed
    • Retry test case ERROR “There was a problem with the provided shipping address: is required”
  • Delete Checkout page
    • Go to Pages > delete the checkout page
    • Validate page is gone
    • go to WooCommerce → Status → Tools, and click on the Create Pages button.
    • Validate if shipping_company & billing_company are still not mandatory
    • Test again ERROR “There was a problem with the provided shipping address: is required”
  • Disable all the plugins
    • Only the woocommerce plugin remains active
    • Test again ERROR “There was a problem with the provided shipping address: is required”
  • Deactive Woocommerce Plugin
    • No more checkout page
    • reActivate woocommerce plugin
    • Test again ERROR “There was a problem with the provided shipping address: is required”
  • iv. woocommerce plugin activate –> woocommerce checkout component
    • Edit the checkout page > changed the company > save
    • Test again ERROR “There was a problem with the provided shipping address: is required”
    • Deactivate woocommerce plugin
    • Go to empty page > edit
      • Message: Your site doesn’t include support for the Checkout block. You can try installing the block, convert it to a Custom HTML block, or remove it entirely. with buttons “Install Checkout | Keep as HTML”
  • Click the “Install checkout”
    • ==> Error registering block. Try reloading the page.
    • Check mandatory status of shipping_company & billing_company: not mandatory
    • Test again
  • Now the checkout page layout has completely changed.
• BUT I now can checkout my products so IT WORKS NOW

@reynierc a couple more diagnostics.

1. I’ve installed “Selecteer Checkout Field Editor for WooCommerce“
   • i saw that despite the customizer changes the field shipping_company was mandatory. => now i’m getting the error “shipping address is mandatory” while i have the fields filled.
   • when I fill in a default value for billing & shipping company field, the default value never shows up in the field. (Otherwise i would just set a default N/A and move on)
   • when i set the company fields to not display, they still display
2. when i disable all shipping methods and just add the collect option (so there shouldn’t be a shipping_address) I still get the same error

@reynierc super thank you for your quick response. Unfortunately i triple checked the specific plugin “Extra product options for WooCommerce” but there is nothing about the company name to be found, few things in general for the checkout in particular. Deactivating the plugin doesn’t help either. I tried before deactivating all the plugins … doesn’t help.

I’ve tried several scripts form the internet to update the functions.php of the theme to make it not mandatory or to set default value like ‘N/A’ but nothing seems to help.

Not sure if there are other paths to investigate. I appreciate the help
