Michael… just look at the hooks before trying ANY plugin. Exercise some due diligence and always test it before launching it on production. I would encourage you to test locally with Mail SMTP Plugin, that way you can see all sent emails and safely test offline with a single test user. What you should of done, Michael, is recommend solutions and try focusing on the solution rather then jumping to rating to get back at something that was your mistake. Curious, for someone who likes buddypress you seem to make a lot of “Forum Topics Started” regarding problems you have with buddypress. If you still feel justified that you are in right standing by giving a 1 star rating, I think you should rethink your security plugins on your site.
