In reply to: [Bogo] Change menu when langage changesMy guess would be the navigation menu ??
I’ve been trying to figure that out too.
I found that when using categories for the menu, the menu adapts automatically to the language.
But how do you set pages as a menu item and make them appear automatically for each language version?
Many thanks for the additional information. Think I’m all set now.
Glad you enjoyed the crumble.
2 things bother me about my feed:
– the title appearing twice
– the pictures are different sizes, I wish they all had the same size. Thought that would be a problem only if you read the feed directly in your web browser and perhaps not many ppl do that.Yes, partial post in the feed is on purpose. The goal is to get ppl to visit your website by clicking the link to read the recipe, is it not? Do you think readers would prefer to have the hole recipe?
I’ve been wondering about the following: when I try to have a line break in the description, it disappears. Did you work around that by using a bulleted list or does your description always keeps the line breaks?
Bon appétit ?? Check out the recipe for crème anglaise or custard to pour over the apple crumble, 5 min. in the microwave oven, super easy and yummy.
Now I’m working on the RSS feed coz guys, the RSS feed looks UGLY with this recipe shortcode! I’ll figure it out, don’t like the available plugins so I’ll be writing my own or hacking the functions.php.
That being said, I really like the Jetpack recipe shortcode: plain and simple.
Most recipe plugins look like they have a lot to offer but actually don’t do much more than pouring the schema.org fields for recipes in something that looks nice but has not much more functions.
While other plugins offer more possibilities but then you’re stuck with them and often become part of THEIR website, getting THEM more publicity and traffic.
Or they offer affiliate links through their site but forget to tell you how much commission you would earn through them…
So I’m flying solo now.
Thanks again for the help, much appreciated ??
Yep, been there, done that and Google search results is OK now. I tested the structured data and that was fine.
My remaining problem was the auto excerpt showing up blank on index and archive pages.
After some furious digging, it seems WP strips shortcodes in auto excerpt.
There seem to be 3 solutions:
– use a plugin like Advanced Excerpt
– write your own plugin
– code it yourself in the index.php to show the shortcode (do_shortcode).I opted for the plugin (Advanced Excerpt) and I’m currently working on how to not display the post thumbnail twice (1 from the_excerpt and 1 from the recipe shortcode). Should be finished by the time you read this ??
In the meantime, I have resolved the fact that the rich snippet did not show up in Google search, now it does. Simply by removing the manual excerpt and removing the %%excerpt%% in Yoast SEO.
So now the only problem remaining is the automatic excerpt not appearing on the blog index and archive pages.
I have played around with other templates and disabling Yoast SEO and the problem remained.
I have then deactivated all plugins (then reactivated Jetpack plugin as the shortcode did not work of course lol).
I did have a cache plugin, couldn’t find immediately what would cause the markup and attributes to be removed, so deactivated it.
Then reopened the article “Stuffed peppers”, updated it. Excerpt still not appearing.
I have also checked the theme I use (Chooko Pro) and the code for the_excerpt or, in the absence of auto or manual excerpt, the_content seems to be correct.
And I checked if there were traces of the recipe plugins I had tested previously but there were no folders on the server anymore, it seems they have been properly cleaned out. That was one of my hypotheses: perhaps some leftover code from one of those recipe plugins. But it does the same when I try to create a new recipe (see Test recipe on bommasrecipes.com, with all plugins deactivated except Jetpack).
I didn’t want to create manual excerpts for each recipe, just sit back and let WordPress generate the automatic excerpt ?? As I understand it (and as it now appears in Google search), the auto-excerpt starts with the Time, Portions etc… then description. And that’s what I want.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Recipe shortcode translationSwitching to French France is not a problem as there is not a lot of difference. And I’ll propose the translations for Belgian French.
It worked, I’ve got the terms in the correct language now, both for French and Dutch.
Big thanks ??

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Recipe shortcode translationI already have the WP version 4.6.1–fr_BE. No updates are available.
Is it possible that I see the English terms in preview but that they would be translated when I publish the recipe?
