In reply to: How to use videopress but allow no one else to embed the codeNo, I haven’t been able to figure it out. What’s strange is the videopress site says this:
Privacy controls
Not everyone wants their videos to spread all over the web. VideoPress helps you restrict your content to your own sites or sites you select. Embeds, feed enclosures and other sharing options are completely optional. Our video player verifies each website displaying your videos has been explicitly granted permissions (if you choose to restrict your content)
But I can’t figure out how to do it.

In reply to: How to use videopress but allow no one else to embed the codeThanks for the link.
Apparently there is no way to prevent others from embedding your video. Hopefully that’s something that WordPress will work on.

In reply to: How to use videopress but allow no one else to embed the codeThanks for the link, but I think you misunderstood my question. I know how to find the embed code, I just don’t want anyone else to find it!
I want to be able to embed the code and have the video play in my blog but not have the embed code available in the left hand corner for others to post the video in their blogs.
If I disable the code I can’t embed it, but if I enable it the code is available for anyone to use, right there in the top. Is there any way to ensure I’m the only one who can embed it?

In reply to: How to use videopress but allow no one else to embed the codeThanks for responding.
I actually do try to find answers before posting here, but this is something I can’t locate. I checked the videopress site once again and can’t find what you’re referring to.
When I disable embedding in wordpress.com and try to embed in wp.org I get the following message:
Embed error
mydomain.com is not an allowed embed site.
Publisher limits playback of video embeds.Could you please tell me what page it’s on at the videopress site?
Thanks.

In reply to: Can’t validate my RSS feed and have tried all advice I can fineI was just coming here to mark this resolved!
@Chris_K
I decided to give it one more shot before giving up and honestly don’t know what I did differently this time. I tried the fix rss plugin one more time and it worked and fixed all the links. I may not have used it correctly the first time.
It’s working now, but I wasn’t able to find the code for the feed. And I looked everywhere in WP.

In reply to: Dropdown Categories submenus not workingI’m bumping this, hoping someone can help me with this. It seems there are some problems with categories on WP.
Is there any way I can correct this? I don’t want to disable my categories or use a new theme without categories.

In reply to: Can I Host Photobucket Video on WordPress? Thanks for your answer!
I am using the code from the Direct Link option on Photobucket and inserting it into the 2 places I can add video – the Add Video button next to Upload/Insert and the Insert/Embed Media button. It either doesn’t show up in the post or just posts a link to the Photobucket site.
Am I doing it correctly or using the right Photobucket code?
I did just try it out again and it works if I click the Share link above the video, copy the code for blogs and embed it under the html option. Photobucket actually looks better than Youtube!

In reply to: Hundreds of 404 Not Found errors from old wordpress.com blogThanks all for your assistance with this.
I decided to take the safe way out and let Google and time take care of the problem. In the last few days the Google indexed URLs have dropped from about 925 to about 300, so it’s working. In the sitemap the Not Found links have dropped from about 900 to abou 500.
Shane, I am going to try your code, especially since it may help for future 404 errors.

In reply to: Hundreds of 404 Not Found errors from old wordpress.com blogThanks for this.
I’ll try to redirect follwoing those instructions.
I did verify my new site and submit a new sitemap and never thought of increasing the crawl rate! I just did that and see what happens.
Will the old URLS eventually drop out of the sitemap? I have the old blog set to not get crawled by the search engines but still visible to users.

In reply to: Hundreds of 404 Not Found errors from old wordpress.com blogDo you mean a Not Found URL?
Here are a couple:

This shows as a 404 but is still there:
Thanks for your input.
My site has only been on wp.org for a few days so I probably don’t have a lot to clean up and I don’t even want to go near the database!
I’m switching to hostgator.com. Does anyone have any experience with them regarding this? They can’t possibly know any less than I do.

In reply to: Do links move from local host to live blog? Thanks samboll!
So just to clarify – I don’t fix the links, but just before I’m ready to import, I replace all the localhost links with the link for my website.
Thanks for your help.
I thought I’d bump this up…
I think I know how to upload from my laptop to my host, but I’m wondering just what I can upload.
If I’m customizing my theme, installing my old posts and pages, adding the links and photos back and installing plugins, will all this upload or should I wait until it’s on the host until I do this? I’d rather do as much before uploading as possible.
Thanks.
