Thank you for making this plugin available. It obviously decreases trials to log in.

    Thank you webmakers2011,
I will also look for that .htaccess next time.

Last time (it has happened many times) I installed a new site, I just did a new reinstall of WP in the back-end update panel. That solved the problem.

I have noticed that when I move the files with FileZilla to the web server I often get messages that the installtion will overwrite something even if the site is totally clean. Usually, I accept FileZilla to go on in writing my files to the server. Could maybe that cause this error with TinyMCE not showing up?

    Esmi,
Have you heard of a method of increasing the image-size to the double but making a very hard compression of the image, which will give about the same file-size as a light compressed standard image? And it should work well on 2x resolution screens without adding processes to the web server.

I don′t know if I understand you correctly but in the FAQ you will find the following question:
Do I have to create a sitemap.xml by myself?
The answer says: Not anymore. Since version 4, these files are dynamically generated just like any other WordPress content.

    James, thank you, soo much!

I am impressed. Great advice as it works. I added the line with the help of NotePad++ and FileZilla. Directly after refreshing the browser TinyMCE did show up. What a relief I feel.

I am very grateful for your patience with this very disturbing issue.
As I had the same problem on two different websites you doubled up
    my happy feelings.

I am very pleased with your kind support.

    Best Regards,

    James,
Thank you for your endurance. I appreciate your help.

I checked some older sites I have produced and found that TinyMCE worked as expected there with WP 4.8.2. So they behaved just fine. Therefore I plan to install WP with an older version in order to check if it will work with TinyMCE after an update to current version.

OK, then I checked for JavaScript error as you suggested and yes there are errors. I got the following message in Chrome:

JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1
wp-tinymce.php Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED
post.php?post=2&action=edit:1861 Uncaught ReferenceError: tinymce is not defined
    at post.php?post=2&action=edit:1861

So now it is confirmed that there is an error in the script for TinyMCE. I checked the line 1861 but I do not have a clue what to change there.

In Firefox I got the following message (freely translated to English):
Loading failed for <script> at source: …../wp-includes/js/tinymce/wp-tinymce.php?c=1&ver=4603-20170530”.

FF said directly: ReferenceError: tinymce is not defined post.php:1861:1

As I am not a PHP-guy I think I have to find some other way to solve this. Maybe that could be installing a former version of WP.

So, now I have a proof but no medicine.

Thanks, James! You said: “If TinyMCE itself was broken in WordPress 4.8, we’d have a few million reports of it:”
Yes, I fully agree. As I could not find anything in my searches I began reflecting on my download. I remembered that I had installed a Swedish version from the Swedish www.ads-software.com, so I began to wonder if the English version might be different.

However, I first made a check of my browsers, as you suggested:
    Firefox 57 Developer Edition
    Chrome 61
    Edge 15
And yes I checked cache and cookies as well as browser extensions.

First, I tried the existing install after my browser checkup. But no changes to TinyMCE.

After that, I reinstalled WP from the original English site (www.ads-software.com) but I kept the database. But no changes after that either.

Then I began to consider if the database could be the problem. So I created a completely new database, and I had to make still another reinstall of WP (English version). But TinyMCE did not show up after these changes. Not in any of the three browsers.
I tested Opera 47 as well, but that did not change anything.

If I can′t solve this before Monday I will speak with my web host. They are rather good on WordPress.

Well, now I am even more confused about what may cause this error.

    James,
I appreciate your comment. In fact, I have not yet loaded any plugins. So, in that case, the install is clean.

As you suggested I also tried different themes, Twenty Fifteen, Twenty Sixteen and Twenty Seventeen. But that did not change the appearance of TinyMCE.

I know there are other TinyMCE-plugins. But my feeling is that if the groundwork of the site does not work properly, how can I trust any additions?

As I met this on two different installs, I expect not to be alone in this experience. Might it be that there is a newer version of TinyMCE? Where might that version then reside and how do I update it? Does anyone know?

Time goes by quickly when busy. Now, I have used your plugin again on a Genesis site. It worked pretty much as I expected. However, I made a very simple coming-soon-page with a colored background and a text within a white box.

I also tested the shortcode from Contact Form 7, and it worked even if the CSS should be tweaked for a nice result. This can be done within your plugin.

I noticed also that there were presets of font combinations to choose from, which is nice. That will speed up the delivery of a coming-soon-page.

I like this plugin and I appreciate it doesn’t have lots of bells and whistles. It will do its job in a straightforward way. It is a good companion to any Genesis-site.

As I couldn’t add stars to my former review I must say I now would gladly add more stars to a full score.

    Jose,
I will look into this again at next week. Now afterward I think I had another coming-soon-plugin active in the network, but not used on the actual site where I did use yours. However, it was maybe active in the network. Therefore the IgniteUp plugin might have been the culprit this time. But I will make a test on an ordinary single site next week.

    All the best.

    Thank you, Jose,
A great and comprehensive answer. And it is obvious that something has bugged here and interrupted a correct behavior. Because my settings page did not have a message area, either a CSS area neither. Maybe other differences also.

I tried your plugin in a multisite setup. Maybe that could affect the outcome as well. But you gave many good suggestions that I will look into further on. I am sorry that I just now is occupied with other stuff. But I will come back and comment when I have found the cause. Then I will also correct my rating with the stars. Because I really like your idea with this plugin. It should almost have been a part of the Genesis development environment.

I have been bedridden the last days with fever, but as I did a test today with the other plugin I would like to comment on your post.

First: The outcome of my new test was EXACTLY the same as with yours. More on that below.

    My answers to your questions:
1/ No I can not tweak the settings. The only options to choose from are from the pages on the General site, nothing from the Illustrations site. If I tried to cheat with a copy of the page on the General site the link from the widget wouldn′t lead to the other site.

2/ Yes, now I suspect it is something special with Genesis widgets. I have not discussed this with Studiopress. When my head is a bit more clear I will take my question to them. As the outcome was exactly the same in both tests I think this is the most probable reason for not getting the import to work.

3/ He, he. Yes, I am a lazy guy ?? I tried early on to do that and I found that I then have to use a Text-widget because I need manual links. Featured Page Widget have the links built in. And when I used the Text widget I found that the CSS was different from that of the Featured Page widget. If I begin to tweak the Text widget I think I have to create two versions one for the home page and one for the rest. But this is a possible solution which I may use.

4/ As said: no difference at all.

Thank you a lot for your engagement in my questions.

    Regards

A shorter film is now available that shows what happens. (The old one deleted)
Screencast that shows the plugin in a multisite

    Steven,
    Answers to your questions:
    1. Yes
    2. Yes, but doesn’t show headlines. And they don’t show up in the frontend, but they are replaced in the backend by widgets related to the General site.
    3. Yes, exactly so. Widgets related only to the site they show up into, not imported widgets.

    The issues:
    1. Yes, the exported widgets do not show up. No caching plugin exists in this WP multisite. But I will look into browser cache.
    2. Yes, they do but not from the other site (Illustrations).
The content of the wie-file is as follows:
    {"header-right":{"text-3":{"title":"","text":"","filter":false}},"home-top":{"featured-page-2":{"title":"","page_id":"19","show_image":"1","image_size":"home-top","image_alignment":"alignleft","show_title":"1","show_content":"1","content_limit":"200","more_text":"Mer info..."}},"home-bottom":{"featured-page-5":{"title":"","page_id":"26","show_image":"1","image_size":"featured-image","image_alignment":"aligncenter","show_title":"1","show_content":"1","content_limit":"200","more_text":"Mer info..."},"featured-page-6":{"title":"","page_id":"34","show_image":"1","image_size":"featured-image","image_alignment":"aligncenter","show_title":"1","show_content":"1","content_limit":"200","more_text":"Mer info..."},"featured-page-7":{"title":"","page_id":"36","show_image":"1","image_size":"featured-image","image_alignment":"aligncenter","show_title":"1","show_content":"1","content_limit":"220","more_text":"Mer info..."}}}

I will try to make a shorter video. But it will take more effort than making a longer one in one take without a manuscript. ?? It needs some planning and afterthought and maybe editing which can take some time. I will respond as soon as I have a new video.

OK, I am sorry for my English, but I will try to elaborate.
I had made a few tests that created widgets here and there on the General site. I had to delete these test results and get rid of all widgets. In order to make a correct evaluation of the process of your plugin, the General site had to be clean from widgets. So I started with no widgets on the General site.

After I used your plugin (export from the Illustrations site and import to the General site) I checked in the frontend of the General site, but no widgets did show up. However, when I checked in the backend of the General site, there were four widgets. That did surprise me. BUT, these widgets are from the General site, not as expected from the Illustrations site. It was just Featured Pages widgets where I only could choose pages from the General site, just as how Widgets ordinary behave.

It was a bit confusing that I found these widgets in backend of the General site as I not had copied (Exported) them.

I am sorry if I am too verbose but I want to make the process as clear as possible. After writing this I thought it might be better to show a film sequence on how I use your plugin. Please view it here: Plugin applied on multisite

    Hope it helps.
