well that’s how I approached it initially, but I have two images I want to use so therefore need to either surround it with another div or find html code. I don’t think it is possible to assign two images to a div background?

After searching all the forum posts on this and docs…I found this to be the best and simplest solution…

So think I possibly need to style excerpts not post? Wish to style latest post excerpt differently to older post excerpts.

thanks t-p I think that’s ingenious, but unfortunately the element is same element used for links and other things in my sidebar. I tried to see if I could give the element a unique id in the sidebar.php file, but couldn’t see it in there.

how did you resolve this? I have a permalink prob at the mo and being able to use permalinks on posts and default on pages would be v useful

but unfortunately when I tried changing back to custom permalinks it doesn’t work again.

the custom permalink i was trying was

/%category%/postname%/

is there anyway I can have this custom permalink and get the page of older posts to show?

or is there a better custom permalink?

figured it out, had incorrect path in php code at top of page..d’oh!

in my main index.php i.e. homepage, should I just have grab header code at top and then delete rest of html?
