Even after I disable the Dropcap the problem with the image and text not formatting correctly persists.

Thank you for your response.
Even after changing the settings as you suggested, the displayed image (which I import from photobucket since wordpress doesn’t permit the upload of headers larger than 1050 in width) will not appear at the set dimension of 1440px, but is being shrunk to 1050px width. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

I put the settings back to 1050px because it looked awfully disarranged when set to 1440px. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ??
