In reply to: Restoring from backup problemsI have got where I wanted, thanks v. much for the offer though
If anyone who is as daft as me wants to know what I did, here it is.
1. Backup your database, Podz’s site tells you how. If you’ve cocked up using Fantastico, it has saved a database for you and you will have had a message saying where to get it. Make sure you have your FTP program showing hidden files because it has a dot in front of it.
2. Delete all the files from the old installation, and delete the database (you probably don’t have to do that but I did)
3. Install WP using the normal method.
4. Go into PHPMyAdmin and upload the .sql file using Podz’s Restore method.
5. Delete all the tables from the old database except oldprefix_posts. Delete newprefix_posts.
6. Rename oldprefix_posts as newprefix_posts using the “Operations” tab. Posts should now be in your new installation.

In reply to: Restoring from backup problemsTo be honest, I think it’s irretrievable – I just realised I did a completely new installation during a site reorganisation. I think that’s what I’m going to do again, so if I have problems restoring my old posts I’ll be back!

In reply to: Content gone but still in the databaseAmory, we established everyone else could see them ??
I still can’t see them in Firefox, but Safari is fine, so I think it’s a Firefox issue that I shouldn’t really clog up this board with.

In reply to: Content gone but still in the databaseI cleared the cache, but does anyone know what keys a force refresh is on a Mac? I don’t think it’s an ISP problem, my boyfriend’s PC connects through this iBook

In reply to: Content gone but still in the databaseI just changed the .htaccess from 777 to 755, no change on my end. I’m going to go and find someone elses computer to see what’s going on there.

In reply to: Content gone but still in the databaseNo, I’m still getting “no posts matched your criteria”, but I’m glad it’s a problem at my end, not with the site! Thanks

In reply to: WP 1.5 show/hide categoriesI’m using the code found here https://codex.www.ads-software.com/The_Loop#Exclude_Posts_From_Some_Category to exclude a category (the one it says is OK to use without a new category archives template) and I’m getting an error:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_ENDWHILE in /home/kartlink/public_html/pro/wp-content/themes/gentle_calm/index.php on line 44Forum: Themes and Templates

In reply to: Page RestrictionOn Gentle Calm, it’s doing it on lines 109, 110, 111, 112 and 114 and on Default/Kubrick it’s the same.
Just deleted and reinstalled/activated the plugin and I got something similar in the admin. Here’s a screenshot: https://www.kartlink.com/pageerror.gif
Someone else in the plugin page comments had that on activating though and the author said it wasn’t anything to worry about.
