Hi Akash, I’ve been trawling through a lot of videos, and practically all of them just seem to add to my confusion. They just don’t seem to address the most simple, basic questions that I have in mind.

The best I’ve seen is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43j6h3oCm0U
which is very good, and thanks to it I’m understanding Elementor better now. But it’s from 2018 and there are things in it that don’t tally with the Elementor of today. Such as, she clicks on the section handle and it opens up to three parts … which would be very useful, but it doesn’t happen now, not when I click on it anyway.

She has a great voice and speaking style, very easy to follow. Most others speak way too fast and don’t really explain things properly.

Do you happen to know if there Is there a more up-to-date version of this video? I think it would help me a whole lot.

Akash, you’ve been very helpful and I do appreciate it, but I’m still not clear on a few things. It might not be relevant, but I’m almost 70 (and at times like this I really do feel it!), and maybe that’s why I have trouble grasping things like this.

Firstly, I was thinking of creating an image of a white ‘box’ with a nice border so that I could use Elementor to put the text in it (this would be the main text box of the landing page). I did that but I don’t seem able to put a “Text Editor” inside the box image. Maybe this isn’t possible, since it’s putting one element (the ext Editor) inside another (the image). If that’s the case I suppose I’d have to create the image including the text inside the box. If it is possible, I’d also like to put a button inside the box, but I’m guessing this is a no-no?

The other thing is this: you say “And about setting the overlay on the body, Elementor doesn’t give you the functionality to set overlay on the body’s background”, and I don’t really know what you mean by that (what is overlay?). Unless you mean exactly what I was just saying, i.e. maybe it means it’s not possible to ‘nest’ an element inside another element.

Sorry to keep bothering you like this but I don’t have any other way to find these things out.

Sorry Akash, I should have been more specific. What I was looking for was how to put a background image on the entire page (or the screen), rather than on an element in the page.

Need a bit of help here Akash. I can barely see what’s happening on that video and there’s no sound. I haven’t been able to set a background image.

Could you please give me brief instructions how to do it?

    Thanks, my friend.

First, Akash, thank you for taking the time to help me out, I really appreciate it and I’d be lost without it.

I’ve been working with one of the videos and putting together a landing page, but it’s not much to look at (and I haven’t quite finished it yet anyway).

Couple of questions you might be able to help me with, if you have time:

1 Would it be possible to upload a wide image as a background and then work on the foreground so it overlays it?

2 I was wondering if it’s possible to create a box image, with background colour and border (e.g. in Canva) then upload it and put your text and the input form inside the box.

Okay, I found a video that answers those two questions:

HOW TO CREATE A LANDING PAGE WORDPRESS AND ELEMENTOR

It probably helps in a lot more ways, but I haven’t watched it all yet.

Feels a bit strange to me, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it before long. If you have any tips, or you know of a really useful video, please let me know.

Sorry to bother you again, but I need a little help.
I see a whole stack of YouTube videos about Elementor (some of the quite long), but if you could help with a few things it would save me checking them all out.
How do I change the background, e.g. if I want the page to have a particular colour?
If I start a new page it has a header and a footer. Is is possible to start without these, just a blank page (they wouldn’t be on a landing page and that’s what I aim to build)?
Only two little questions, but I’m sure there were other things I was wondering about. If I think of them I’ll ask again. And thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

    Thanks for repying, Akash.
Before I go ahead and install Elementor, can I just check that this will not change anything on my site?
I want to create a few landing pages, but I don’t want to use Elementor for anything else (not right now, at least), and I just want to check that installing it won’t affect my site. Hopefully, I will just be able to use it on the specific page I’m building (the landing page).

Thank you, Tom, that’s very helpful, I really appreciate your reply. I’m putting together a membership website in the Health and Fitness niche, and I wanted to add a menu item for a few things other than health and fitness issues (e.g. Law of Attraction, Prosperity Consciousness, creating a website, that kind of thing).

I decided to call the category Excess, since the site is called Exercess (after a lot of searching for something suitable, I came up with the name by combining Exercise and Success). You can view the site at https://exercess.com/

Your suggestion fits my needs perfectly! I just needed to be able to add a few words to the category title to explain it, and I’ve done it, using this method. I’ve also added a few words to each category title, but whether I keep them in is debatable.

If you’re interested, I can give you free membership to the site by way of thanks. It isn’t launched yet (I want to add some more articles first to make it really attractive and worthwhile to potential subscribers, and the Excess category might just swing it for people who aren’t madly interested in health and fitness, but are looking for interesting content generally). If you’d like free membership just give me your name and a chosen username and I’ll fix it up for you. That way you’ll have full access to the articles (as you’ll see, if you take a look, all the articles are partly visible – they only become visible once you sign up for a membership).

Thanks again, I really do appreciate your help.

Problem resolved, just forgot to mark it resolved.

You’re right, wfyann, the problem was with another plugin. Sorry, I should have updated my original post right away when I found the solution.

I suspected a few recently added plugins might be to blame so I started renaming them (like I did with the Wordfence plugin earlier). I soon found the culprit and was able to log back in.

It was really annoying me that I was locked out, then I remembered it was only out of a subdomain (of no real importance) and not the actual site. It really helps to get things in perspective!

Anyway, I’m now working on that site, making improvements and changes, and when it all looks pretty good I’ll make the same changes to the real site. I only really started to look into subdomains and how to use them quite recently, but they’re so useful. Making a stack of changes to a live site would be tricky, to say the least, not to mention you tend to keep changing things to see what works and what looks good … not ideal on a live site.

Thanks for replying, it’s good to know there are folk out there who are willing to lend a hand. Always appreciated!

I can’t see any plugin that’s directly associated with Facebook or any of the other social networks, but I realised I’d installed a new plugin a few days ago. I was only trying it out – I don’t intend to use it on this site. I deactivated it and sure enough, some of the pages started showing up!

I’ve just been trying several of them and one (at least) still stubbornly refuses to show up. The URL is: https://www.truly-amazing.com/drop-that-excess-weight/

Could you please take a look and see if it’s visible to you? It might be that I need to reboot, or something.

    (@kayten1)

    Hi Martin, thanks for replying.

I had already tried deactivating the plugin, but I just did it again. It would let me select an image but when I was back at the page setup the image hadn’t changed from the standby image.

Sorry, haven’t a clue what the second part of your answer means!

As for “it seems to be an error by any facebook plugin of your site”, I don’t really understand that … this behaviour has just started, and only with this plugin. It’s not like any other plugin is causing odd behaviour (at least none that I’m aware of).

    (@kayten1)

Okay, I’ve just checked in to CPanel in HostGator and I can see a different picture.

Under ‘Uploads’ in wp-content for truly-amazing.com I can see folders called 2015, 2016, and 2017. And they do indeed contain the image files. Don’t know why I’m not seeing this in FileZilla.

I was looking at the Uploads folder in wp-content (under public_html).

Regardless, whether I change the permissions it doesn’t make any difference. And thankfully I can still see the images on previously published pages, so that’s something.

But the problem persists: I can’t upload a single image … which makes it virtually impossible to publish a post (maybe publishing is screwed as well, haven’t tried that yet). If the images can’t be uploaded and the post URL can’t be edited, who knows what else is in a mess??

Can someone please advise me how to fix this so I can get back to what’s important, publishing stuff on WordPress (instead of struggling to get WordPress working).

Thank you, I do appreciate people trying to help.

    Thread Starter kayten1

    (@kayten1)

I don’t know much about this, but I’m looking at the uploads folder in FileZilla and there is only a folder called 2014, and it contains just one folder, named 01.

If there should be years and months I assume there should be a folder called 2015, one called 2016, and one called 2017 (none of these exists).

Fed up with problems like this cropping up from time to time. WordPress is an amazing way to publish a site or a blog but when problems arise it’s a nightmare. I have so much to do and I can’t do anything till I get this mess sorted out.

Actually, I only started this blog (truly-amazing.com) in 2015, so maybe there should only be folders called 2015, 2016, and 2017 … ?

I’ve just skipped through a few pages of my blog and all the images seem to be there just fine (thankfully). So they’re stored somewhere, I guess … though not in the uploads folder, as far as I can make out.

If anybody can reach out and help I’d be most grateful.
