  • I installed the authorization image hack today https://www.gudlyf.com/archives/2004/06/07/wordpress-hack-authimage/
Easy to install and that lamer’s spam doesn’t even hit my moderation queue now.

Solved this, and I’m not sure why, but I do know how.
I had some whitespace after the final ?> in myhacks.php. All I have in that file is code for Recent Posts, but apparently that was enough to mess things up but not give an error message.
(People like me really should be BANNED from messing around with WordPress) ??

I tried this fix with Firefox, just returns a blank page for me. I cleared FF cookies, cleared FF cache, blank.
I tried logging in with the Login link on my blog page, no error messages, just blank page.
Did all the things on the WP faq about logins, including changing the password thru phpMyAdmin, still cannot login in FF. From the FAQ, tried #5, but got a parse error for blog/login. (ck’d for whitespace, wasn’t any) So I restored my original vars.php file.
Also, tried #6, but login returns Empty password field (even though I was entering a password and the correct one).
    Using WP 1.2.1, btw.
Thank goodness for IE, I still have my Edit This links on page and can get into the admin panel that way, but how long that will last, I dont know.
It seems most of the posts I read on support forums and faq suggestions could be outdated because of 1.2.1? Some of the fixes on that faq had been made in 1.2.1.

Love the design and color scheme. The content and design compliment each other. =)
Some IE 6 weirdness (didn’t ck Firefox): the rollover text shifts the page a smidge. Also, Categories is bold and flush, but Blogroll/Blogs We Read, etc is normal-weight and indented.

Beautifully done. Very stylish and I like the color scheme and fonts you chose. (reminds me of a 50s diner almost)
Looks good in both FF and IE.

ahh, I see what you mean. Sorry, sounds like this needs real advice, not my kind of almost-help. =)

I assume by “black box” you mean that it doesn’t show the image? I had a similar problem today as I finally made the leap to customized permalink structure: my sidebar images wouldn’t display. What I had to do was edit my index.php file so that any image references were to the full URI (that is, https://blog.domain.com/images/something.png) Previously, i had used images/something.png
Maybe this is your issue, too.

Slight problem in IE with the content below the sidebar.
Love the color scheme and the minimalist look of it. =) Nice work.

Going with the smallest thing … you did activate the plugin in your admin panel? I’m not seeing the weather output on your blog at all.
If so, all I would try is going through weather.php again and checking that you’ve set all the options (there’s many to set — he’s included commentary throughout the file on what/how it should be set)

I have a weather_cache subfolder in my plugin folder, set with write access. I *think* this has to do with updating the weather to current conditions, tho, and not the icon display. Also, did you set the use_icon_status to ‘yes’ in the weather.php file?
as an example, my icon path in weather.php is set to https://www.sportfolio.sportsintel.net/images/gif-wicons-black-background/ and I have the icon extension set to ‘gif’ (yours would be the png extension, apparently) and the abs path to my weather cache is /home/sportsin/public_html/sportfolio/wp-content/plugins/weather_cache
All that is set in the weather.php file.

I’ve used two different plugins/hacks to accomplish something similar. Maybe there’s an easier way, but how I do this:
Matt’s Asides – a hack that strips the typical post extras (title, date, meta) and leaves the meat of the post in the main content area. https://photomatt.net/2004/05/19/asides/ Also, Podz has a very nice setup and styling guide for Asides on his site. https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/asides/
Kitten’s Show Category plugin, which can also hide a category’s posts from the main content. I use this to display short posts or links in sidebar, but keep them out of the main content area. https://mookitty.co.uk/devblog/category/show-categories/

I use the Weather Icon plugin. Are you sure you followed this instruction?
“Then edit the weather.php file to point to the
‘wicons’ folder and set the other options listed there.
make sure you set write access on the cache folder.”
My icons are in a folder with 755 permissions also, so you should be fine there. I used the full http path to the icons folder in the weather.php file.

the index.php has the div markings

I used to use Feedburner quite a bit. I used their Headline Animator for a few feeds and displayed the Headline Animator in my sidebar.
Doesn’t fit in with my page style anymore tho, so only use Fburner now as a link to my own burned feed.
