They probably don’t know why the plugins are conflicting either. I’ll just have to try another downloads solution. Thanks for your help.

I should have tried that but didn’t think of it ’til later.

Conflicts with NextGen Gallery plugin. ?? Same as the last downloads plugin, which is why I switched (only then it was NextGen that didn’t work right).

Do you know of any way to make it work?

I started using the plugin today and it never worked. Apparently it is half working, to log my attempts! By the way, the debugging log doesn’t show anything (just a blank page).

The pdf file opens when I follow the url in the Media area. Also checked the link in the download. It’s correct also.

I also tried a different download earlier today (in the same post) and ran into the same problem.

Still doesn’t work.

I’m using the button in the editor to insert it. I tried both new window and not.

The only “solution” I have found is to temporarily deactivate the delightful downloads plugin whenever you want to insert a gallery. ??

Thank you. I haven’t changed anything lately but I will check my conditions.

Solved (that was quick!). When I paste a shortcode in visual mode, it seems to decide for itself which group it wants to display, but when I paste in text mode it picks the right one. At least I think that is what is happening based on my brief testing.

Oh, okay. I understood from the instructions (somewhere) that adding to a group was optional and assumed that meant adding an ad directly was possible! Confusion ended. ?? Thanks.

Then, do you have any kind of firewall or other security for blocking or throttling unnecessary or undesirable traffic?

I have Wordfence Security.

Another test:

Just put in maintenance mode and deactivated all other plugins. Then went back to the post I mentioned above. Searching for and viewing that post caused 16 entries in the log. Switched to Twenty-thirteen theme and tried again: 19 entries.

I really don’t know how things work but it puzzles me that some person can look at a page or post and it makes one entry. I look at the same post and there are several inches of entries.

Argh! Do you know why there were so many connections in your case?

I’ve been looking at the log files again. I noticed a lot of activity by one IP address all connected with some blog post so I looked at that blog post myself and then reloaded the log file. Sure enough, it did the same thing. About 30 connections from my IP address associated with loading one page. No wonder I’m overloading the server!
