Like said the issue occurs when in WP dashboard, under setting > reading you select a static page, and set it to shop – not talking about Woocommerce settings, but Worpress settings. Otherwise you are correct, it does display as per your screenshot.

I have only WC activated, I switched to Storefront theme, and on my device (Android) the issue is still there. Switching to twentyfour the “shop” is displaying.

I think I found the culprit, which is the Storefront of which I was using a custom child: when I set the homepage in WP settings to use the “shop”, Storefront removes it from the menu. Bad design IMO, if a visitor is on any page s/he has to guess the home link is the “shop”.

I added first the woocommerce_get_image_size_thumbnail, and it seemed to work, then I added subcategory_archive_thumbnail_size and the image size is shown at 600px by 600px when inspecting the element, the actual display by measuring it is 230×230, and before the image being displayed I get a lot (I mean really a lot) of lines like the following – I have wp_debug set to true in my local environment. different keys (0 and 1), and lines reported.

I increased the php max_execution_time = from 90 to 180, and it kept failing, I disabled plugins, save the WC, I restarted Apache, and failed; I then removed the plugins from plugins directory, and failed. Meanwhile I did a few Apache restarts; I did all while WP_DEBUG was set to true.

I did add WP_DEBUG_LOG and set it to true, I tried one more time to activate WC, and it did activate. I really don’t know what happened, I am guessing there was/is some issue/conflict with Apache/php/MySql as the Apache logs does report some errors I need to investigate more.

That said the WP debug reports 10 deprecated and 2 warnings of WC.
