You can define a canonical permalink structure under Settings -> Permalinks in the admin. panel.

I like to select the “Custom” radio button and enter: /%category%/%postname%/ in the form-field.

Are you trying to use TablePress to display a grid-like layout of thumbnails of your images?

I think this is an issue with your theme.

You can also use an open-source alternative like Paint.net or GIMP to edit your photos before you upload them. I like to crop my images in Paint.net and compress them, losslessly, in JPEGmini (this program costs ~$20).
