In reply to: Excerpts in Recent PostsI was able to get excerpts by using the RSS feed widget – although its seems crazy to have to do this. It would also be nice if all the built-in widgets were also offered as stand alone plugins so that one could more easily modify them…

In reply to: Excerpts in Recent PostsSeems crazy that there isn’t a simple widget for WP 2.5 which offers excerpts with your recent posts … I spent 40 min looking but couldn’t find anything nice and simple and easy to use. I’d like something like the default widget but with excerpts…

In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problemI tried installing a clean install of WP on my laptop and running the import locally to see what happened. The result was that HTTP crashed. The Crash logs indicate that the following thread crashed: libphp4.so
It seems to me that I’ve stumbled upon some kind of serious WP bug. Not sure how to go about reporting this to the WP folks.

In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problem@chfriley Could you explain some more. Do you add this to the import file or to the export file? Did it solve the problem for you?

In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problemI’m having the same problem here. You can look at my RSS export file here:

Textdrive wants us to migrate to their new Joyent servers, but since I have so much other crud in my MySQL database I need to move my homepage entries via WordPress export/import.
I uprgraded my current install to 2.3 and installed a fresh copy of 2.3 on the new servers, but I’m getting 500 errors every time I try to import this file.
Interestingly, it worked fine with another wordpress install I migrated, but not this one. No idea what could be causing the problem.

In reply to: Export not workingIn doing this I notice that the pages in the other user’s name were created a long time ago, presumably imported or preserved from when my usernames were different. This user no longer exists, which may be what is causing the problem!
UPDATE: Still can’t do “All” after changing ownership of all posts to “admin” however, at least when I do an “admin” export I’ll be sure to have everything, and that still works. May be that the user tables are corrupted…

In reply to: Export not workingSame problem here. I tried both Firefox and Camino on OS X. Medical’s solution worked for me – I could export my “admin” user account, but not a second user account. But it is not a issue of having too many posts – this is a very small site on which I don’t use the blog features, just “pages.” Also, the second user doesn’t work at all. I am going to go through and manually try changing all the users to be “admin” and try again…

In reply to: Plugins/Widgets don’t show up on Plugins Page AnymoreI had this problem and solved it by fixing permissions and ownership for the files I’d added. (I think it was ownership which was the problem.)

In reply to: Selected WorksEdublogs, as I understand it, is like WordPress.com targeted at education users. Selected Works is a publishing platform not a blogging platform. It allows you to self publish/self-archive your academic articles in an easy to read and search format with RSS feeds. Having looked for something like this on a fairly consistent basis over the past 5 years I’m very impressed with what they’ve done, but it seems to me that it should be easy enough to create a clone of this service on WordPress via a plugin.
