In reply to: Links and SEOHi Jim,
It’s not clear if these are off-site on on-site links you’re talking about. In any case, the link text should be a keyword for the PDF content, for example: Download my report on <link to PDF>10 Top Traffic Strategies</link> for FREE.
Be careful creating non-organic links offsite, especially if your site content doesn’t change much. Google will sniff out and bury offsite links that look unnatural.
There are a few way to do it right. We can carry on the conversation if you like, but I hope that answers your main question.

In reply to: I'm having spam on my commentsYes, I wholeheartedly support paying the few dollars to Akismet. If you don’t have the cash, there are a few other things you can do. I wrote about these on my blog:

In reply to: Adding geolocation to user profilesA geolocation plugin sounds a bit overkill, unless your authors are roving around the globe! If that is the case then you’re probably better to geocode each post (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/geolocation/). Otherwise, just get the author to type their location into their bio.

In reply to: Better for seoCategory. I say this because you should really be categorizing your posts under specific categories so that Google can understand what your website is about (SEO).
The common wisdom (based on information from Google itself) is that you website should have 4 main categories. I would add that, for excellent SEO, you should also have 4 sub-categories for each main category.
Make each main category relevant and related to the main topic of your website. That is vital for good Google ranking.
Happy to answer more about this is you want.

In reply to: HTTP Error when uploading images (but not all failing!)How fast is your upload speed on your Internet connection? PHP is set to timeout after about 30 seconds. It could be that your large files are taking too long to up load.
To find out what the timeout value for PHP is, install the PHP Server Info plugin and look for the max_execution_time setting
Are ou kidding me? The feature set is HUGE. I have a very good e-commerce store built with this plugin. Check it out if you need proof: https://www.lucrativeimservices.com

In reply to: Blog won't show upHave a look at the ‘Reading’ settings, under the ‘Settings’ menu item in your Admin dashboard. There is an option called “Front page displays”.
The problem might be resolved by selecting ‘Static page’ and selecting your blog page for the ‘Posts page’. You’ll need to choose the page to display for ‘Home page’ as well
