In reply to: [Toolbar Publish Button] I love this plugin – please update itI’m recreating a site using the latest WordPress version (5.5 at time of writing) and have, so far, found no functionality problems with this plugin’s 1.6.2 version. I assume that’s the latest, as I’m getting no upgrade prompts. Perhaps it hasn’t been updated because it doesn’t need to be?
If you’ve found a specific issue following a recent WP upgrade that I haven’t come across yet, it would be helpful to the author – and other users – to give details so it can be addressed.

In reply to: [PHP Everywhere] Multiple PHP InstancesMany thanks for the response. I’ll await the outcome of your pondering with baited breath. ??
I’ve mentioned another plugin a couple of times above. Till now it has allowed me to just switch virtually seamlessly between PHP and HTML. (Doesn’t even need shortcodes … at least not conscious ones!) It MAY provide a ‘Eureka!’ moment, if you’re seeking inspiration. ??

In reply to: [PHP Everywhere] Multiple PHP InstancesI’ve just remembered, and thought I should add, that I ONLY get the error message on an offline development site I use, using a phantom XAMP server. I don’t get it on my live ‘online’ site. So if you do your developing online, it makes it even more likely that ‘PHP Code For Posts’ will solve your problems. ??

In reply to: [PHP Everywhere] Multiple PHP InstancesUnfortunately not. I’ve put off using the plugin I want to use, activation of which causes my current PHP plugin to generate an error message. So I haven’t really faced up to the problem yet.
Till now I’ve been using the plugin ‘PHP Code For Posts’. It allows me to switch almost seamlessly between HTML and PHP by just surrounding the PHP in standard ‘<? PHP’ and ‘<? >’ tags – whether in templates, within actual posts or even widgets. It’s only one plugin (WP-Movies .. or some such name) which is highlighting an incorrect syntax error in the PHP plugin. Others haven’t before, and the sites I’ve been using it on are pretty heavy on plugin use. So if you haven’t tried that PHP plugin, it’s worth installing and trying it to see if you get an error with your particular group of plugins. If you don’t, great! It’s done everything I’ve needed it to till now. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s being actively supported / developed any more, so I can’t just fire the issue at the developer. ??
Hope this helps a little. ??
Best regards,
Kevin

In reply to: [WPMovieLibrary] Plugin Conflict … Kind ofHi Charlie
Thank you for such a rapid response!
I’m not sure ‘PHP Code for Posts’ is still being actively supported, but if it is I’ll let the developer know, as you suggest. I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been updated in ages, so I’ll also try the fix for myself on my local version and see what other messages it then generates, and when.
If that doesn’t work I’m going to keep looking for an alternative, or seriously consider if I can adapt my site to use one I’ve found that ‘kind of’ works … because ‘WP Movie Library’ seems fantastic and exactly what I need to base my site’s functionality on!
Many, many thanks. ??
Best regards,
Kevin.

In reply to: [AddToAny Share Buttons] Plugin adds spywareHmmm. No. I seem to have set it to “on”, or it defaults to “on”. Rats! More investigating … to work out why I didn’t get an email! ??

In reply to: [AddToAny Share Buttons] Plugin adds spywareSorry for not acknowledging your reply earlier. I think the “send an email if someone posts on this thread” function defaults to “off”, and I must have forgotten to set it to “on”.
Thanks for the tip. I’m in a quandary now! I’ve since found another plugin that does the job, but I seem to recall it only does what I need ‘nearly’ as well. Now I’ll have to decide if it’s worth the time and effort to go back to reinstate this one instead! ??

In reply to: Suddenly all links and menu items open in new tabs! :OI assume you’ve tried the usual – deactivating all plugins, especially anything you’ve added new or updated recently, and switching to the ‘standard’ theme to see if it still happens?
I’ve had instances where I haven’t tried that … because a problem definitely couldn’t possibly be related … then found out later that in fact it was!

In reply to: Suddenly all links and menu items open in new tabs! :OLong shot, but don’t Firefox and Chrome have an “open links in new tab” option? (Probably IE and Opera have too.) Perhaps it’s your browser settings rather than WP which is causing it … especially if you’ve just upgraded them and that has caused the default settings to change.
Sorry – ignore this idea. Does the same thing in my Firefox too, and my settings are definitely not to open links in new tabs. Should have checked that before speaking!!
I suspected I shouldn’t be expecting to use get_custom_field but was a tad hopeful. At least now I know to stop looking. ?? [ I keep using get_custom_field in templates, then spend ages wondering why I get a null result. Maybe now your wisdom will sink the fact that I’m using the wrong thing into my thick head! ] I’ll check out the get_posts function – that might just be what I need instead of using lots of get_post_metas. I’ll also check get_incoming_links … I didn’t think it would be relevant when I read the name … but thinking about it, it just might be. Besides, wouldn’t hurt me to learn what it does. Never know when I might find another use for it! ??
Many thanks for the detailed response!

In reply to: [Wordpress Simple Survey] Upgrade Problem – 2.2.9 to 3.0.0Hmmm. Am an idiot! Didn’t think of that – too busy trying to find complicated reasons and solutions I guess!
Have downloaded the zip file and replaced the old version manually – it solved the problem immediately.
Many thanks for setting me right! ??

In reply to: Single file for WordPress text?? I stand (sit, actually) suitably chastised! Haven’t edited core files before, and this one was just laziness on my part – easier to just delete the text than to work out how to do it properly. I’ll restore the original file and work out how to do it the correct way.
Thanks for reminding me of the potential perils of taking liberties! ??

In reply to: Single file for WordPress textAs an afterthought, I just reread my original post, and ascertion of “many instances”, and trying to square that with your belief that text is usually controlled by the theme. If you take the comments template as an example, isn’t there a WordPress ‘fallback’? i.e. if the theme doesn’t tell the software to say anything different then put “One comment on …”?
