Before I saw your answer, I looked at the blog again. The screen now says:

It turns out the problem I had was not related at all! Sorry!

But FTR: I resolved my problem. It turned out that my .htaccess file was not writable.

So, for any newbies like me – if you change your permalink settings, be sure to notice the dialog box that appears down below, copy the code and paste it into your .htaccess file. And change the permissions. More info in the Codex.

I may or may not have a similar problem. I am starting with 2.5.1, imported everything from my wordpress.com blog, and on the back end everything looks fine. But upfront, the main index appears as it should, yet clicking on the categories, posts, pages, etc. leads to a 404 error. In fact, the main index page seems to be the only thing that appears.

I have not reassigned my domain name to this server, because I am building this “behind the scenes” until it’s ready to go live.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
