The site was not accessible at all, so I couldn’t get hold of the Updraft info – I had to go into the cpanel and restore a backup from a week ago, before I installed UpdraftPlus. The site is up again now, but without Updraft or any of my recent changes.
How can I make sure this problem does not occur again?

I would be very grateful if someone could get back to me on this issue as it is affecting the people who own the site.

I have just spoken to my web hosting provider and they have restored my site to the previous version, which works perfectly for now.

I will upgrade WordPress as soon as I can be sure that it won’t crash my site!

One possible cause of the problem might be the theme I am using – Thesis 1.8 (www.diythemes.com). Is this theme compatible with WordPress 4?

None of my gallery pages is working either.

Hi – I have just tried updating to 4.0.1 again, but it has crashed my site. No pages are showing – just the banner and the menu tabs.

I had the same problem – I upgraded from 3.9.2 to 4.0.1, at which point my site also stopped working properly – the pages did not display their sidebars and comment sections properly, and my e-commerce page didn’t work at all (and the plug-in crashed the site when I activated it).

I’m afraid I have also gone back to the previous version, as I needed a working site more than I feared security breaches. How can I make sure the update won’t kill my site?
