Thanks for your response. I think the problem was my lack of experience with the full site editing. Once I started realizing how things worked I think I got rid of the iced tea! It took some experimenting though.

Thank you very much for pointing out that the image format was .webp I hadn’t even noticed. I am glad to say that when I resaved it as .png that yoast used the correct image meta tag and twitter showed the image as expected.

Needless to say I won’t be using webp images in the near future. Thank you!

Can you recommend a video that goes over the basics of best preactices for setting up yoast?

Thanks for your willingness to help figure this out. Here’s an example. This Facebook post https://www.facebook.com/tomrgolden/posts/5285300634837160 uses the wrong image. Compare it to the twitter post that used the correct image. https://twitter.com/trgolden/status/1509971942635450379?s=20&t=vkm-90a_lIpcg6aVbBp_8w

When I say “correct image” I mean the one that is selected in the wordpress post yoast social section. The basketball image is selected in both the twitter and the facebook sections but it only shows up in the twitter post. The odd thing is that even though the wordpress page shows that the basketball image is selected for the facebook post the actual meta tag shows

<meta property=”og:image” content=”https://menaregood.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/bus.png&#8221; />

And that is the link to the bus image. So Facebook is correctly choosing the iamge but somehow yoast is not putting the correct link into the meta tags. And yes, I have removed and replaced the image in the Yoast social section multiple times but it has no impact.

Any easy fix for this?

Thanks for your response Michael. I did find the Twitter validator page and have been experimenting with it. Looking back at what I have found, I think it is safe to say that Yoast is doing their part perfectly. Yoast correctly posts the meta tags with the correct urls.

I have been in touch with twitter support and things started working shortly after I contacted them,(lol) but not totally. Sometimes the image shows up. Sometimes it shows up but is delayed by up to a couple of hours. And sometimes it just doesn’t appear. Twitter had no explanation but said I needed to just wait for it to show up. Great idea, right?

So at this point I see it likely as an internal twitter problem and nothing to do with wordpress or Yoast. Does that seem like a reasonable assumption?

You may be right. I just can’t believe that something as simple as this might be omitted from the theme. We will see.

Yes, thanks for your quick response. I agree that it is a simple task to add a featured image for the video but I have hundreds of videos that will be added to this site and it would become far too labor intensive to manually add featured images for each one. If this theme won’t automatically add a thumbnail to the blog then it is not going to work for me. It’s frustrating because the twenty twenty one theme did this automatically. Frustrating.

Yes, thanks for your response. And yes, I place the url in the youtube embed box and the thumbnail does come up on the post…just as your example did. My concern is not about the individual post pages, those seem to work just fine, it is about the blog page that lists multiple posts. There are no video thumbnails on the blog page even though there are multiple posts of youtube videos showing. Only the titles are showing, not the thumbnails. I am hoping that someone knows how to adjust things so that the youtube video thumbnails show up on the blog page. Tom

Actually it is my turn to apologize. After I installed the “extra” I eventually found the page you had shown. When I put the url for the video into that embed box it worked! Sorry for not finding that sooner. The only problem now is that the thumbnail comes up in a strange squarish shape. Almost a perfect square. Is there any way to change the shape of the thumbnail? Thanks for sticking with me on this.

Thanks for your efforts but the plugin made no change that I can notice. Newly posted videos do not show a thumbnail on the blog.

It will be much easier for me to simply find another theme rather than continue to struggle with a theme that is not working properly.

Too bad, oceanwp has some great features.

Thanks for your continued help with this. I will include a link to a picture of the embedding of the video. I have used both the embed block and the youtube embed block and both give the same result. The post works fine showing the thumbnail but the blog only shows the text.

Thanks for your response. This made me wonder if maybe it was the lightsail server that might be causing the problem so I went to another site on a non AWS server and installed OceanWP and added a video to the blog and created it as a video post. Same result. You see the unlinked url but no thumbnail.

I have to agree with the original poster. I am very new to wordpress and had a very hard time finding out how to build a page using this plugin. I still don’t know. The FAQ page refers to “examples” about shortcode….but in my newbness I didn’t even know what shortcode was and barely do at this point. I never found the examples mentioned in the FAQ though I looked every place I could think. The admin page shows a number of phrases to use but it doesn’t say how to format them. I had previously tried simply pasting those in and it obviously didn’t work. I searched wordpress for “shortcode” and saw that the examples given were placed in brackets. I then tried enclosing them in “[]” and the result was to create a page that had nothing on it except:

“Sitemap created with WP Realtime Sitemap.”

At this point I am guessing that either the syntax with the brackets was incorrect or the plugin doesn’t function with ver 3.2.1.

I am pretty frustrated because this plugin looks great and exactly what I am needing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Aha! Thank you! You just place the <!–more–> tag into the post where you want it to stop being an excerpt. Now I get it!
