A new sponsor has been added and the partcipant list has been updated.

A new deadline date for theme submission has been made. The new date is May 1, 2006. More info about the decision has been posted on the site.

Sponsors would get recognition for supporting the WordPress theme community.

Unfortunately, I have no connections with any of the previous sponsors. ?? I also have no way of contacting all the previous people who entered the old competition. The best way is for everyone here to really spread the word on their blogs. I do have a few more prizes on the way from generous donors, but nothing on the level of what was offered before. If anyone has any connections, please let me know.

Btw.. it looks like the original competition site is now completely gone.

Once I finish the theme for WordPress Arena, I’ll clean up the code for the photography theme and release it.

The default style works for now. I threw the site up so fast that I haven’t had the time to create a custom theme around the competition. Hopefully, I’ll have something ready in the next couple weeks. ??

Podz pretty much nailed it about customizing an exisiting theme for entry.

Thanks Bhoney. ?? Yes, if everyone can spread the word about the new site, that’d be great. This is basically the only place that the new competition has been advertised, and I’m not sure the word is getting out to all the past partcipants.

Not sure if we can name the “best”. There’s definately a handful of very talented wordpress theme designers in the community. If you’re not in a rush, you might wait to see some of the creative work from the partcipants of the WordPress 2.0 Theme Competition: https://www.wordpressarena.com.

There’s not specific rule against using another theme as a basis for a new design, but you should definately give credit where credit is due. New themes based off other themes should be truly unique to the original and not just minor modifications of things like colors and fonts.

Not a prob. ?? A few more themes have been submitted. I hope we can round up some more sponsors as well to dish out a good list of prizes.

In the end though, it’s just about sharing the wealth of theme work to the WordPress community.
