In reply to: Stuck at Step 5 – Domain not found!I did a quick search for your domain name, and don’t see it as registered:
https://whois.sc/prairiepariah.comI’d suggest double-checking with DreamHost support to make sure you registered the domain you meant to:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=support.msg&Also, I’ll note that you can’t actually access most sites directly via IP at DreamHost unless you’ve added a unique IP. This is because more than one site is hosted on each IP (shared hosting means more than one site per machine, and usually per IP).
However, there are a few ways to work around this. The first one is to create a temporary dreamhosters.com subdomain from within “Manage Domains”:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=domain.manage&Click “Add New Domain/Subdomain”, then scroll down to the “mirrored” section, and enter “whateveryouwant.dreamhosters.com” as the subdomain you want to create (replace whateveryouwant with a selection of your choosing), then click “Mirror this domain!” It will take a few hours for the subdomain to be created.
Alternately, there are some other ways you can also view your site before the domain is registered/pointing at your account (and are a bit faster), which you can see here:
https://wiki.dreamhost.com/DNS_-_Viewing_site_before_DNS_changeHopefully this helps!

In reply to: Switching Over from 1&1 Many Sites on one HostYes, you can definitely have your domains registered wherever you want, and just point them to DreamHost.
During signup, you’ll be given the option to transfer, or can decide not to transfer.
If you run into problems, support will be more than happy to help you get the domains set up so that they point to DreamHost properly, without actually transferring them.
DreamHost doesn’t do WordPress transfers for you, but usually support is happy to help guide the process if you run into issues.
Hopefully this helps!
Just to note, unless you’re on a VPS/Dedicated (and have been managing them yourself for some time), PHP 5.3 should always be available.
Super glad to hear that you were able to get it resolved!
Try going into your DreamHost panel, to “Manage Domains”, then click “edit” by the domain you want to install it on.
Scroll down, and you can change PHP from 5.2.x to 5.3.x (FastCGI preferred).
Then, save your settings, and in about 5-15 minutes, you should be using PHP 5.3.x, and the plugin should detect it appropriately.

In reply to: New site: "Error: PHP is not running"Great, no problem!
Glad to hear it’s sorted out.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: New site: "Error: PHP is not running"That URL loads the WordPress Install page for me.
You can see this what I’m seeing (through an anonymous proxy) here:
https://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/https://www.tonyadamspm.com/wp-admin/install.phpIf this is a new domain or you recently pointed it to DreamHost, it’s possible that DNS hasn’t yet propagated (since that takes 24-48 hours).
I’d suggest flushing your DNS and restarting your browser/computer to see if that helps. You can see instructions for flushing your DNS cache here:
https://wiki.dreamhost.com/Flush_DNSAlso, of course — if you have custom entries in your local hosts file for setting up the domain manually, you’ll want to revert or remove them so that you can set up WordPress on the server itself.
If you’re referring to a local install not functioning (using something like XAMPP), then you are probably looking at problems with your configuration there, rather than issues at DreamHost.
Hopefully this helps! Let me know if you run into problems, or have further questions.

In reply to: New site: "Error: PHP is not running"Since PHP is both enabled and at versions that are compatible with WordPress on all our servers, this certainly shouldn’t be happening.
If you contact support directly, at the following URL, they’ll be able to give you the best information that’s specific to your account:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=support.msg&If you post the URL to your WordPress site, I’ll take a quick look for you, though!
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [Adventure Journal] Version Confusion in Adventure JournalThanks, Otto, for pointing out this thread to me!
It’s true that we work with Ian and the incredible Theme Team to include wpcom themes as part of initial installs, and have done so for some time now (although the ability to install without them is new).
The Theme Team have a method to mark certain themes as being incompatible or improper for .org hosting, and we in turn don’t install those themes.
I’ll note that neither themes nor plugins are touched as part of an auto-upgrade from us.
This means that any wpcom themes you have would only be upgraded if you do so within your WordPress panel, presuming there is a newer version on the .org repo.

In reply to: Problem Updating WordPress 3.2I realize this is an old post, but for posterity:
In the DreamHost panel, PHP 5.2 just means “5.2.x” (and PHP 5.3 means PHP 5.3.x).
DreamHost does, indeed, support WordPress 3.2, and the current version(s) of PHP here (as of this writing) are 5.2.17 and 5.3.5
