In reply to: [GeneratePress] Updating from old version of GPI’m hosted on wordpress.com. Unfortunately, they don’t let you set up a staging server. I will back up, and I have regular Jetpack backups anyway. Thanks.

In reply to: Comment emails no longer being sentI am the only author on the blog, and articles show my name (in the admin console; I don’t display them on the blog). As for the other two points, I covered them in my question.
Thanks for the link, but I shouldn’t need a plug-in for a feature that should be working and had been for years.

In reply to: Database contains thousands of deleted articlesOh, that makes sense. But the size discrepancy certainly doesn’t.

In reply to: Database contains thousands of deleted articlesA few revisions, no orphaned data. It says the DB is 43,5 MB. I just checked in Cpanel, and it has shrunk since yesterday to 177 MB, but I still don’t understand the discrepancy.

In reply to: Database contains thousands of deleted articles“Maybe its stored in trash status”
You mean in WordPress’s trash? There was a lot of stuff I trashed, then deleted. That’s what I think went wrong; WordPress didn’t delete it from the database. What sort of custom query can I use? I am not very comfortable with that, because of the risk of hosing the database.
I did try an optimize plugin; it shrank the DB a tiny bit, maybe a few MB, bot nothing more.

In reply to: [Plugin: Jetpack] Publicize just plain does not work properlyI just noticed that it stopped working for me a few days ago. It was working fine for a long time, to Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin, but it never worked with Google+.
I just noticed that it’s stopped working for me as well: https://www.mcelhearn.com

In reply to: WP 3.6 – Live Writer no longer connectsI’m having the same problem with MarsEdit. It started a few days ago. First, there were problems uploading images with posts, then problems across the board. Sometimes, if I try a half-dozen times, I can get a post to upload. But every time I refresh MarsEdit, I get the error.
I do recall getting blocked by 1and1 a couple of years ago, because I had set the number of posts MarsEdit grabs too high. Weird, because if I had a lot of hits on my site, that would probably generate the same problem.
If anyone finds a solution – other than changing hosts, something I’ve been planning to do for a while – please post it.

In reply to: Post interface changed; can't post at allWell, getting in touch with them is painful. So I’m trying to create a new db, then export/import. Interestingly, the old dbs – ones I set up years ago – are limited to 100 MB, which isn’t much. But new ones get 1024 MBs. So why would they have blocked me…?
Of course, maybe they didn’t, because my quota showed me as being way over the 100 MB, but it was still working for a while…

In reply to: Post interface changed; can't post at allIt looks like it has something to do with my mySQL database being over quota; by 50%. I’m guessing something got locked down on my host’s server. It turned out that the Redirection plug-in was storing huge logs. I’ve deleted the plug-in, but the problem hasn’t been solved. I might have to wait a while for the host to notice that the db is smaller…

In reply to: Post interface changed; can't post at allGood idea, but that didn’t fix it. I’m wondering if there’s database corruption.

In reply to: Post interface changed; can't post at allI’m finding another problem: I wanted to create a new admin user to see if the same thing occurred, and the creation didn’t work. The email sent to the user’s address says the following:
New user registration on your site Kirkville:
Username:
E-mail:
So it looks like there’s something messed up with users, their permissions, etc. Can anyone help me figure out what’s broken?

In reply to: Post interface changed; can't post at allI tried deactivating all plug-ins, then reinstalling WordPress, and I still have the same problem. I get the full interface if I want to edit existing posts, but I can’t post anything new. Could there be a permissions issue with any specific WordPress files? If so, how would I find which ones?
