I’m having the same problem. If you posted this 3 months ago and got no response, I’ll have to assume it’ll never be fixed. I thought it was a CSS issue with my theme…

Ok, on my site, it turns out that there was some code in the footer that was commented out. Since the wpadminbar is created by the wp_footer() function, usually called from footer.php in themes, if for any reason this function is commented out, the adminbar won’t display. I’ve un-de-commented this, and it works fine for me now.

For anyone not seeing the bar: check footer.php if the wp_footer function isn’t there or simply commented out.

I don’t recall why I would have commented that out, but there must have been a reason.

In my case, I see the extra margin display as white space, then the rest of the page jumps up into its normal (pre-admin bar) position. So it has to be something in my theme that’s preventing its display.

Ok, it’s displaying on another one of my sites. So it’s obviously something to do with my theme…

I’m just thinking; I run a half-dozen blogs. It’d be neat if the admin bar could have links to all of them, not just the one I’m visiting. And if there were a Safari extension, too, that could provide that access…

OK, 10:18 French time, just had another one of these. And this is with the 30 second setting I changed yesterday.

Tellyworth, it’s not about uptime, apparently, it’s about response time.

Changing the setting to 30 seconds seems to have resolved the problem (for now). I’ll have to wait overnight and see what shows up in the morning.

Perhaps this should be configurable from the plug-in page rather than just in the php file?

I’ve changed the timeout value as you suggested. I’ll let you know what happens. Is there any way to log what Akismet does?

There’s at least one other thread (it’s hard to find more, as the search feature for the forums is limited) where others are saying they have the same problem. I’d never seen that in more than 4 years, but it started a month or so ago.

No, I’m talking about the messages that Akismet displays above the comments list:

Akismet has detected a problem. A server or network problem prevented Akismet from checking 1 comment. It has been temporarily held for moderation and will be automatically re-checked in 20 mins.

No, sorry, that’s not it. Akismet is showing that there are network errors. It’s not about learning.

I’ve got a CAPTCHA tool that is supposed to work with Akismet.

And it’s not spammers being more aggressive, it’s Akismet failing. I see the messages on my Admin page. This has been happening for more than a month, and there are other post here about it.

Well, I’ve gone back to 2.4, from one of my sites I hadn’t updated, and it seems to be working correctly. 2.5.2 was giving me the same problem I posted earlier about, with tons of spams getting through.

The dev files from last week worked fine for me; the new update is doing the same thing as 2.5.1. And I didn’t save copies of the older dev files. Any way to get them?

Joseph, do I just drop all of those files into the aksimet folder?

Should there be an update soon?

I’m having the same problems with Akismet 2.5.1. Frankly, it’s become more or less useless. Server time-outs and tons of spams that come into my inbox for moderation… Is there anything I can do about this? Before 2.5, it worked great. I’m tempted to go back to an older version.
