Thanks for your thoughts Maykato. The theme is Storefront (latest version) so that isn’t the issue. And the problem with switching plugins off is that the site will not be functioning properly while I am waiting for the problem to randomly occur again, so I don’t think that is a good way to resolve the problem.

Hi Barnez, there are no plugins that have any user role function. The plugin I have the slightest suspicions about is Really Simple SSL but I don’t see how that might affect user roles.
The site runs WooCommerce and the Storefront theme, so nothing odd there.

Hello, yes I can also see the green circle with the + symbol at the start of every row. If I click it, it seems to add an extra row below. I’m not sure what that is meant to do. Can I make it not display somehow?

Oh, thanks for looking in to it. Could you post your bit of code so I can see if it works on my theme?

Yes. The widget asks for URL to the linked Event List page (which I have put in) and the Shortcode ID on linked page (which I have added as ‘2’). If I make that Shortcode ID ‘1’ then clicking on one event shows the whole lot of events. If I make that Shortcode ID ‘2’ then clicking on one event shows just that single event but in the index.php template. I want it to show just the single event but in the single-el_events.php template.

Not sure how to do that.

Now I have only one other thing to work out. On my theme, when I click on a single event in the sidebar widget, it displays that event in the index.php page, not the single-el_events.php page

Yes, I have the same problem.

However, having logged in as the Super Admin, I find I can not add any text to the message field of the email – I can only write in the Subject field.

Any ideas why?

OH, I have just worked out that when you say ‘power users’ you mean Super Admin.
