ok, thanks. I can handle the rsync. Perhaps all I need is a way to rewrite media URLs so the external server is used.

Is it possible to not use FTP but instead use something else, like rsync, to keep files in sync? I think this would be better, less intensive, no?

d’oh! got it installed. wp-content had wrong permissions.

When I activate the plugin in WPMU, I get:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Nothing in error logs, sadly. ??

So, I am asking, does Cookies for Comments work when placed in mu-plugins?

In my own testing since my original post, I’ve found it does not work. This would mean that it has to be activated for all blogs.

This is great. But, unfortunately for PAGES, WordPress only shows the ancestors one level up. That is, it adds:

page-child parent-pageid-(id)

Would be nice if it did an “ancestor-pageid-id” or similar, no?
