Ok… now the mobile version gives the error for the two files I removed and the desktop version gives the error for:
https://www.westminsterav.com/wp-content/cache/minify/000000/7a5b6/default.include.7129c5.js
Everything is “Embed before </body> and all three operation settings are “Non-blocking using async”
By the way – the first file doesn’t appear to be on my site – gives a file not found error…
Ok… I deleted the top two jQuery files you listed from my list in JS file management, and now they are listed in the errors along with the previously mentioned file:
https://www.westminsterav.com/wp-content/cache/minify/000000/7a5b6/default.include.c9ce83.js
https://www.westminsterav.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.11.2
https://www.westminsterav.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery-migrate.min.js?ver=1.2.1Suggestions?
Thanks!
In order to get my image slider plugin to work, I had to put https://www.westminsterav.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.11.2
in as “Embed in <head>” and I had to choose the Embed Type “Default (blocking)” for the head.I have tried moving this file to different embed locations and different spots in the order – but haven’t found anything that works. I currently have it second in order.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

In reply to: [Autoptimize] Google PageSpeed Insight CSS ErrorsHi Frank,
Great news – the code you supplied me with worked!
One question – I am not clear on how the tool you linked to works… Can you explain or direct me somewhere where I can get an explanation. I have at least one more site to optimize so I want to make sure I use all the correct tools on it as well.
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
One quick follow up/update…
I eliminated the Soliloquy plugin and switched to a different image slider plugin.
I had to work with the minify settings again to get them working properly.
I am now at the point where the only javascript getting flagged is:
https://www.westminsterav.com/wp-content/cache/minify/000000/7a5b6/default.include.5af54d.js
I don’t know what this does and I can’t seem to find any settings that will stop it from causing an error.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

In reply to: [Autoptimize] Google PageSpeed Insight CSS ErrorsHi Frank,
A quick update. Since Soliloquy was causing problems, I removed it and am using a different slider plugin.
The only CSS errors I am getting now are:
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 2 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:
https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans
https://www.westminsterav.com/wp-content/cache/autoptimize/css/autoptimize_5911c5d1872d7ab6726ee6c8a1e40429.cssAny suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks!

In reply to: [Autoptimize] Google PageSpeed Insight CSS ErrorsHi Frank,
Thanks for the reply. Soliloquy Lite is a simple image slider. If there is one that doesn’t bog down speed and load times, I would have no problem switching. Do you have any suggestions? You can find out more about Soliloquy and download it at: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/soliloquy-lite/
With regard to the font, do you have any suggestions or other possible solutions I can try?
Thanks!
Ted
Hi,
I changed the Google font code to your suggestion, but it didn’t help. Still getting the error.
Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate it!
I’ll go to the support for Autoptimize and see what they suggest.
Thanks again!
Ted
Ok… After a lot of trial and error and moving things around – I no longer have any JavaScript problems!
For CSS I unchecked the Enable box in the Minify >> CSS area of W3 Total Cache. Then I installed Autoptimize and am only optimizing the CSS Code with this plugin.
Optimize CSS Code – Checked
Generate data: URLs for images? – Checked
Look for styles only in <head>? Unchecked
Inline and Defer CSS – Checked
Inline all CSS – Unchecked
Exclude CSS from Autoptimize – used default: admin-bar.min.css, dashicons.min.cssFor Inline and Defer CSS I read the FAQ and used the suggested tool Critical Path CSS Generator. I put in my website and pasted in my theme’s Style.css file. I let it create a critical path CSS for me which I then copied and pasted into the text box below Inline and Defer CSS.
Here are the current errors:
Your page has 5 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:

https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+SansWhat’s next?
Thanks!

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the response! I actually tried one other thing and Google PageSpeed Insights apparently likes it. I took the JPEGs and saved them as standard PNG files.
The error is gone.
There are two others that now appear however:
Losslessly compressing https://www.westminsterav.com/…te/themes/classic/images/slider-dots.png could save 925B (68% reduction).
Losslessly compressing https://www.westminsterav.com/…ssic/images/slider-arrows-horizontal.png could save 897B (67% reduction).I am still working on fixing the “Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content” error and made some changes. These two images appeared after the changes.
Do you think these are appearing because of when they are loaded by a JavaScript or CSS file – or is there anything else I can do for these two images?
Thanks!
Ted
Thanks – I think I followed your suggestions, but I am now getting these errors:
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 1 blocking script resources and 5 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
Remove render-blocking JavaScript:https://www.westminsterav.com/…000/7a5b6/default.include-body.5af54d.js
Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:
https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans
https://www.westminsterav.com/…-lite/assets/css/soliloquy.css?ver=2.3.7
https://www.westminsterav.com/…-lite/themes/classic/style.css?ver=4.2.2
https://www.westminsterav.com/…ize_0759713a7c498d142b2bb08fa00cb8d1.css
https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+SansI am also now getting this notification as well:
Prioritize visible content
Your page requires additional network round trips to render the above-the-fold content. For best performance, reduce the amount of HTML needed to render above-the-fold content.
The entire HTML response was not sufficient to render the above-the-fold content. This usually indicates that additional resources, loaded after HTML parsing, were required to render above-the-fold content. Prioritize visible content that is needed for rendering above-the-fold by including it directly in the HTML response.Only about 26% of the final above-the-fold content could be rendered with the full HTML response (see screenshot).
Any suggestions?
Also in your post you mentioned “Preferably merge them in one file. This can be achieved by choosing one embed location for all. Be careful of dependencies. So jquery has to be on top.”
I am not sure how to achieve this. Please help.
Thank you so much!
Ted

In reply to: Unordered Lists appearing bold without bold codingNo. What browser are you using? Chrome is the only one I have found that doesn’t now show bold text.
