Hi Guys,

Fortunately Bad Person seems to be trying his luck elsewhere. Since I don’t have a fixed IP address, I installed this:

https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-login-security-2/

It saves the IP address from which Administrators login and if an administrator logs in from a new IP then it sends a one time password to the account email, (which the bad guy won’t receive)

I’ve also explored some .htaccess options which I may put into effect in due course

for these suggestions. Mitch Powell, With one exception, all these accounts were set up to display very different nickmanems to the actual usernames which are full of upper and lower case characters, numbers and punctuation
I didn’t know about the ?author=N, but Barnez I’d already activated the Wordfence option disabling it.
Since my post, I have had 536 emails notifying me that an IP address has been blocked.
I’m still hoping for some input from Wordfence’s support people.

I did have another plugin, “Bulletproof Security” installed but found that it was too much hassle – everytime I changed anything I had to set up BPS again. And Better WP Security does most of the same things. After speaking with hostgator technical support and someone who knows about this stuff, I’ve deleted all but one set of the lines and all seems well so far! I’m still baffled how it got like that and I have blocked write permissions on wp-config and htaccess as you suggested.
Would it have been slowing down my site ?

Hi Aitpro,
First, I love the plugin which means my sites have not been affected by the recent wordpress attacks (a few IP lockouts only)
I didn’t understand (any of) your answer, so please can I ask for a non-technical answer to the question ? Hostgator has installed php5.3 for me but told me to add:

‘AddType application/x-httpd-php53 .php’

to all the .htaccess files of all webistes. Will this work OK with BulletProof Security installed ? (Just Yes or No is quite technical enough for me !)

@writemcodeboy, I have just decided not to use any of the Post publication statuses. Using a tag might be confusing to readers, although I did read something last week about “conditional tags”, which might be useful. I was hoping the Edit Flow boys would come up with something, being a non coder!

I have this problem too – my paypal donate widget sidebar (see https://bbspeedmap.com) insists on a left justification. Writing as a non CSS expert, does it matter where brianfreytag’s snippet of code goes in the file ?
