I use to be with host gator and that happened every time. After every install I had to put a htaccess file with above info.
Finally contacted tech support and she fixed it permanently for me. I am now with a different host and do not have that problem. It is their problem and some of their techies know how to go in and rewrite code for you so you won’t have to do it every time. I went through the chat.
I hope this can help save you the hassle I know you are going through.

In reply to: 2.9.2 just too many problems. All themes.
I just reinstalled wp.org to my site and the default theme is WordPress Default 1.6 by Michael Heilemann.
None of the widgets shown in the sidebar when I visit the site is shown on the sidebar in the appearance>widgets.
This is my wp.org site. It is only the default theme.
https://sdnsblog.sdnovascotian.caI hope this helps and sorry it took so long to get back to you.

In reply to: 2.9.2 just too many problems.jdembowski – yes the memory is all fine. PHP memory_limit and all.
macmanx – All widgets that are in the sidebar defaulted with the theme I activate, even after an import of .com to .org. I am unable to remove or edit them from the widgets page. The sidebar becomes fixed and unable to edit.
Before, when I was trying to transfer a blog the widget problem was solved with the reset widget plug in. But it doesn’t work with 2.9.2. I don’t remember exactly but it was an error permanently written on the right top corner of the sidebar that said something like ” array… line 825 ..then my site and name php etc.” the only way to rid the message , after a process of elimination, was to remove wp.org from my site.
I would say that the plug in no longer works with 2.9.2
But why do I need a plug in to fix it? Is there no way to enter the fix into the program. Is there a theme with widget reset built in that works with 2.9.2?
I really want to be able to have my .com transferred and running on .org But the sidebar/widget is an issue.
There has to be a way.

In reply to: 2.9.2 just too many problems. My memory is fine. 64MB file upload. If the widget reset plug in doesn’t work then all the rest is mute. First of all I need to be able to reset the widgets. Do you know of any other way of achieving this. Every theme I upload has their widget stuck and are not registered on the sidebar on the widget page. I see no reason to continue until this is fixed.

In reply to: 2.9.2 just too many problems.did all that. even uninstalled .org and installed just default theme. Side bar gets stuck and very few widgets, plug ins or themes work with 2.9.2 . If I could get the widget reset plug in to work with 2.9.2 then I would be happy because then I could just import and continue.

In reply to: white screen for all previewsI went searching through the docs for wp 2.9.2 and apparently there are only a hand full of themes compatible but that shouldn’t stop even the compatible themes to show their previews. The theme I clicked on first for a preview was ” idiandong ” I’m sure that had nothing to do with it.

In reply to: white screen for all previewsI havr reinstalled and the same is happening so I went into my error console in firefox and this is one of many that I received.
Warning: Unknown property ‘border-radius’. Declaration dropped.
Line: 2
Does this make sense to anyone?
I am able to see the preview for the wp-classic theme.

In reply to: white screen for all previewsI must not be making myself clear. I have no posts. I have just downloaded wp2.9.2 onto my site. I went into themes to try and find a theme. Hit on preview on the different themes and all I get is a white box and no theme preview. It indicates the theme’s name and that it is a preview of that theme, but the box is white and empty.
I will remove wp.org from my site and try another installation (of the default) Just seems strange. I’ll let you know.

In reply to: white screen for all previews2.9.2 is my version and I have just installed and have not picked a theme. I have not installed anything that wasn’t there after initial install.

In reply to: Want my .com to be an .orgI just want to clarify that this did indeed move my files etc. successfully from .com to .org.
I just have a few problems with the sidebar widgets functioning. Seems there are some glitches about setting them anew. When files were imported it also listed all the widgets etc. along with showing what was included from .com. I am just having problems editing the widgets.
The actual import/export was successful.

In reply to: Want my .com to be an .orgsamboll,
Thanks I did what you suggested and no matter what theme I pick the widgets won’t work properly. Even some of the theme options won’t allow me to remove links or metas, categories, archives etc go into deep space etc.
I think I’ll stay with the .com blog hooked up by a link from my site for now and research about the glitches in the import/export thing. I hope I will be able to prevail upon you later if needed.rfair404,
thank you for the link and info on rss feed url.
Thanks for being there.
