Not something I get involved with but this is quoted from the help pages:
“You can use different versions of PHP by changing the extension on the script in question. PHP5 is the default, so to use php5, leave its extension as .php. If you want to use PHP4 with a script, change the extension to .php4”

The host is Heart Internet, by the way. I’ve just tried another site under a different host. It too has crashed because of sgm with this error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /home/newportg/public_html/nptphil.org.uk/wp/wp-content/plugins/simple-google-map/includes/class-simple-google-map-loader.php on line 130

I’ve just checked back to the reply I had from Heart Internet when I first raised the problem:
Thanks for contacting us. Yes, it related to your plugin(simple-google-map), Please check the error below:
    emmanuel-newport.org.uk [Fri Jun 24 22:25:48 2016] [error] [client 80.90.193.161:38602] AH01215: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /home/sites/emmanuel-newport.org.uk/public_html/public/wp-content/plugins/simple-google-map/includes/class-simple-google -map-loader.php on line 130: /home/sites/emmanuel-newport.org.uk/public_html/public/index.php

Hope some of this makes sense!

Now that I’ve finally got that site stable I’m nervous about messing with it any more. I tried editing a different site, which uses many of the same plugins but a different theme (“Commune”), and there didn’t seem to be a problem.

No new plugins had been added since I was last editing panels without any problem, and I apply all updates as they crop up to WordPress and plugins. Do you think it’s a problem with a plugin?
