I think the only choice is to try again later. I finally got it to update when I tried it about an hour later, and then on another site it worked automatically this morning. At the time, I couldn’t upload manually either, because the update just wasn’t coming up. WordPress needs to fix whatever’s going on.
I can’t download the update either, as of less than a minute ago.

In reply to: [Facebook] Incorrect Featured Image Published to TimelineHi,
Sorry for the delayed response – I thought I may have figured out something that I did wrong and was trying to test it which took a while.
Thank you for the link to the debugger, I’d never used that before.
The original post that I wrote about actually fixed itself – the next day after publishing the post, the Facebook links starting showing the correct image, and the debugger was showing everything as it should be. It actually changed at some point.
Both of the previous times that the wrong image was pulled, I had only selected a featured image in WordPress right before publishing. The first time, I couldn’t get the thumbnail to show up correctly on WordPress either, it was uploaded but not displaying on the live site, so that might have been unrelated to Facebook and just an issue in WordPress.
Last week, however, I set up a new PAGE, not just a new POST, and did not set a featured image right away. Within a minute after publishing, I DID select a featured image, but Facebook was – and still is – showing a random image (from the most recent blog post, I believe). The debugger for that page shows that wrong image, which does show up on the page but only in a footer widget showing recent blog posts.

In reply to: TwentyTen and TwentyEleven Cause Errors, Missing FilesI never did get it figured out – we re-did our whole site which we set up on a clean install of WordPress, and I just ignored the problem until then. That version of the site had been hacked, which MAY have something to do with these problems.
Did you get this figured out?

In reply to: Core Files Modified or Added – Is this ever legitimate?Right. As I asked, though, I’m wondering if anything legitimate ever modifies the core files – I’m not asking if I should modify them myself, nor what to do when a site gets hacked. I’m not looking for advice, just info! ??

In reply to: [Facebook] [Plugin: Facebook] Duplicate buttons?OK, I don’t know if something changed or if I was just blind the first time I looked at the plugin. If you choose the “Like Button” option, there’s a drop-down menu for “position” that allows you to choose top, bottom, or both. Glad I found it!
Thank you!

In reply to: Core Files Modified or Added – Is this ever legitimate?Thank you for the links. I’m still curious about the original question, though: if the WordPress core files modified, or extra files/folders added to them in the same directories, is this ever legitimate? For example, I know plugins will go into the plugin folder. Would an extra .php file ever be legit? What about a modified one?
If so, how do you know what’s OK and what’s not? I gave specifics to show what kind of stuff I was looking at, but I don’t need help with having been hacked per se. More about what files might be good to delete and which could have been placed there by something else I’m using, and how to tell which is which.
Ok, updated: I can clear out the grey area by making it not display, but my images now just look misaligned because the space is there although it’s not displayed as gray. I tried inserting this code
.promo_slider_background_image img { margin: 0 auto; display: block; }
from another thread, but it didn’t do anything. The site (which is pretty sparse right now, I’m just trying to figure out what’s what and how to make a free theme do what I want it to do) is at https://www.swaffordfineartphotography.com/
Hi – I have the same question. I’m using a child theme based off twenty eleven. Maybe there’s an issue within this theme?
Hi – I just wanted to add that I had this problem in Chrome, but I got it to authorize when I tried it in Firefox.

In reply to: [Facebook] [Plugin: Facebook] Duplicate buttons?Same question here – is there a way to only show the buttons (like/share) once? If I have a short post, it looks like I’m starving for likes to have the buttons take up so much visual space. I don’t really care about having them at the top – if I’m personally going to like something, it’s after I’ve read (or at least scrolled) to the bottom of a page, not first thing before I take in the content.
Hi – I’m having this problem too! I was using this plugin previously and it was great. Now, we’re running a new version of our site, and trying to use the plugin gets me into the endless loop described above. When I first click “authorize,” I get a DNS lookup failed page, which leads me to the authorization page if I reload it. Then I get a Dropbox page saying it was successful, but the app doesn’t show up in “my apps” in Dropbox and the plugin says there was an error.
Any suggestions? I deleted the plugin and re-downloaded and installed it, but that didn’t help.
