Oh almost forgot, part of the dilemma I am in is that these users are permitted to create normal blog posts, but I would not want them to be able to create more than one custom post type, so if I had a custom page type then restricting their role from creating pages would cover that.

Also, I can only seem to access the slideshow through the admin menu if I am logged in as an admin-is there way to allow other roles to access it?

What I figure I will do is use s2member to only allow users of the correct role to view the /wp-signup.php page to do what you just said. Problem solved, thanks Ipstenu!

Would all the sites have to be premade then?

I think that ‘allow users to create a site when registering’ feature is what I am looking for as a capability/role function. As in, if someones is registering for role=editor then ‘allow users to create a site when registering’, if role=subscriber then ‘do not allow users to create a site when registering’. Can that be coded somehow?

I actually found this article that explains having two separate forms based on role:

So if I went ahead and put that in the one addition I would need, is a function that says if role=x then create new site with their user name (like example.com/username). Does anyone know if wordpress has a function like that for multisite?

Essentially, I am hoping to have paid subscribers get their own ‘site’ while normal users can just access the home site and the sites of the paid subscribers.

Decided to go a step further do an entire fresh install of wp. Guess we will never know the true problem, thanks for all your help Ipstenu! Much appreciated

When I try to go to /wp-admin I get “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” now

I had the same result for www and without.

Problem got worse because now I can’t seem to login in on the primary domain either (domain.com/wp-admin). I type in my login information and just get sent back to it without any change.

Any ideas are appreciated

I tried deactivating all the plugins, but that didn’t help either
