Along the way, in an attempt to fix it, I updated my theme (Optimize Press). Unfortunately, it was a big update, so now I’m making lots of little tweaky changes to every page on the site. I’ll reinstall and test the caching once I’m done. Thanks so much for your help!

You rock! Yes, I was running W3 Total Cache. I just disabled it and I think the site is working.

You might also want to look at the TinyMCE Advanced plugin. It doesn’t deal with the metatags, etc., but it does give you a lot better control over the HTML used in your posts and pages.
