In reply to: 2.9.2 to 3.0 upgrade: Comments not showingYes; Yes; YES!!!
Just noticed an update to the theme is available and now the comments work.
So to recap, in my case, the WordPress update needed a theme update to resolve whatever was causing the problem.
When you stop and think about it; not at all unreasonable.
Thanks again for putting me on the right track.

In reply to: 2.9.2 to 3.0 upgrade: Comments not showingOK – update;
certainly, if I revert to the default theme, it works just fine.
I’ve tried it with my existing plugins and they work fine too.
Unfortunately, I love the theme I’m using, so for the moment, I’ll have to live with the problem.
Perhaps the theme developer will come up with a fix in due course.
In the meantime, it may be a good opportunity to experiment, with the default theme, to see how I can blend it into my existing site. I can do this on my spare development server.
Although I have an intermediate knowledge of html, my php knowledge is zero, so it’ll be a challenge.
Thanks for your guidance.

In reply to: 2.9.2 to 3.0 upgrade: Comments not showingI don’t want to high-jack this thread, but I have a similar problem and it seems from searching the site, many others do too.
The blog shows a comment is available, I have approved it, but when clicking on it, it doesn’t work and says “NO COMMENTS YET”. What could be the problem please?
Here is a link for you to see what I mean:

Notice the current post at the top has a comment. Try clicking on it to see the result.
Any guidance would be gratefully received.

In reply to: You don’t have permission to access /blog/ on this serverOK, I’ve just done a complete reinstall, with a clean database, with exactly the same result.
Completely locked out of WordPress; what on earth can it be?

In reply to: OK on localhost, but no good on the webA DNS entry would (I think) only be applicable if you are running a DNS server.
It’s easier to put an entry in your “hosts” file; which would look something like this:
[local server address] [domain address] for example,
192.168.0.1 https://www.yoursite.com
It has the effect of pointing your local machine to your local server.
You’ll probably already find in the hosts file, a local address like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
DO NOT remove it.

A local host entry solved it.
Thanks once again for your very valuable help.

In reply to: OK on localhost, but no good on the webWow! I don’t believe it!!
Thank you both so much.
Such a simple change and yet I couldn’t for the life of me work out what was wrong.
If I may, one further question related to this.
I have changed both the WordPress address and the Blog address and it now appears fine on the web, but, I can now no longer access the files via localhost. (the server and my computers are on the same internal network, but the server is in a DMZ). I’ve overcome this, by logging on via a public proxy server to gain access and it works fine, but it is not an ideal solution.
Is there a way of maintaining local access to the files please?
And by the way, I owe you both a couple of pints!
