Hi Ray, this is NOT due to PID. I have now conducted extensive tests and determined that this is caused by a bug in WPeC.

When I either add new or delete Categories using Quick Edit on the Products Listing Page the variations of a parent product lose their SKU’s and adopt the SKU of the Parent Product.

If I open the product to change the Categories this does not happen. However this is extremely time consuming when changing many products. I load all my products originally into a What’s New category so that customers can find the newest products easily. This is very important as it tells my wholesale customers which products are from my newest release. Before my upload I remove all the products that are in the What’s New Category from the category to make way for the new ones. In using Quick Edit to do this, it has been changing the SKU numbers of all the variations of those products.

So how do I report this bug? And is there any hope that it can be fixed? It seems like a very unlikely scenario, but I assure you that is what is happening. I can easily duplicate it on my site.

    Thanks ray-instinct!

I use Product Importer Deluxe by Visser Labs. Would LOVE to find another efficient, bulk uploader (but that’s a whole other story).

It doesn’t seem to change when the import happens, but it’s hard to notice. I only notice that the sku has changed when someone puts the item in their cart and I get a transaction notification and see the wrong sku on there. (I should never see a sku on the order that starts with RS- because that’s just the parent part number) Once an import has processed I check each product and they are fine. So they are changing later in response to *something*. A future import? I can’t tell.

I can’t quite duplicate it yet because I need a bit of research time. This happened several months ago, and it seemed to change about 200 variation skus to the parent product sku. We (my developer and I) downloaded the product database, changed them in there, and then re-uploaded the database to correct them. (I could not do this alone) We could never determine what made this happen.

I am going to check some more products in that same batch and see if they are correct now, then put them in a cart to see if they change. I see that one came through incorrectly again today when I remember correcting it last week.

I was just hoping this had happened to someone else so they could say, “hey…I know…flip this switch and voila!”… optimistic, I know! ??

Good thought, Ray, but each new upload contains completely new products. They *shouldn’t* affect existing skus. And they don’t seem to have affected any of the roughly 800 products uploaded before or after July.

    More info if it helps:
I use Product Importer Deluxe for uploads but it didn’t work in December because of the update to 3.9.1. So my products were uploaded one at a time manually at that time.

We have changed servers twice since August. Once because it was configured wrong and once to a private server. But no skus before the July skus are affected in this way.

    My site is at https://www.stampendous.com

    Thanks
    Laura

HI Michael, Any news on when this will be updated. I have critical product uploads upcoming and really rely on your plugin.

Also, any news on an update to control product visibility by user role? I really need to be able to load products visible only to wholesale customers, it takes FOREVER to adjust product by product manually. Then I need to be able to change to all customers a couple weeks later.

    Thanks for your timely response!!
    Laura
