Thanks for all the advice!

So I made a backup then updated the URLs in the WordPress General Settings. Then I had a call from 1and1 (which I had already scheduled before getting your help!) and they updated the .htaccess file for me.

So now when I go to my blog the URL shows up as https://www.beautybestfriend.com

Do I still need to change the database URLs or use the Better Search Replace plugin? Also, do I need to change anything on Google Analytics?

OK so my blog is https://www.beautybestfriend.com. I’ve tried accessing my site by inputting https://beautybestfriend.com and it comes up ok, and 1and1 have told me that I already have an SSL installed.

I’m not too sure about adding another plugin, can’t they slow the blog down?

Thanks @dnutbourne I think I’m going to backup everything apart from the Uploads. Fingers crossed I never need to worry about uploading my images anyway, but if the worst happens I do have them saved and it’s only me who adds them.

I’m not really sure if I need to backup my images, I’m assuming these are what is taking up most of the space – do you think this is the case? I have all the photos stored on my PC. If the worst happened and I needed to recreate my blog I assume I’d need to re-add the photos post by post? Whereas if I have them backed up would I just be able to instantly restore them all with one click?

Thanks @luckychingi I did this on Thursday but nothing seems to have changed yet. The duplicate entries are still showing up in Google search. Could it take a while to update? I have my sitemap set to update daily so it should have changed by now?

Am I right in thinking that this has run successfully?

When I ran the very first backup and included the plugins, themes and uploads the log file was huge, I wasn’t even able to use PasteBin as it said the file was too big. I’m wondering if it is the images that are taking up all the space as I have over 600 blog posts all with at least 2 images.

Are these in the database? And what about the images?

As a test this morning I ran a backup of the database only and it only took a minute and completed with no errors.

If the worst happened and I did need to restore my blog surely I could just reapply my theme and plugins in the normal way? So do I really need to back all these other things up?

So the duplicate entries are STILL showing on Google. However when you click on them they now take you to the main blog post and not just the image, so at least this is an improvement on the initial problem!

Any ideas how I get the duplicate entries to stop showing up in Google completely? @homemadejam?
